Michael Moore is in a spot of trouble over his historic family house in Davison, MI

But, not surprisingly, he's stepping up to set things right. I think Michael tends to take on way too much. He has a big heart.

DAVISON (WJRT) - UPDATE: (07/27/16) - Earlier this month, ABC12 told you about the mayor of Davison using social media to tell Michael Moore to take better care of a house he owns in the downtown area.

The two men recently had a face-to-face meeting.

Mayor Tim Bishop met with Moore for two hours at city hall last Friday. Bishop said the movie-maker was apologetic and he's ready to make a big investment.

"He kind of laid out for me that he was sorry about how things were handled," Bishop said. "That the prior property management group that he had hired retired, went out of business and wasn't getting the messages to him. He's kind of gone through some personal issues and now (he) and his family are here to do some stuff with it."

Moore shared with Bishop the home's rich history.

"From his grandfather being the first doctor in the area, when it only took seven months to be a doctor, which is interesting," Bishop said. "This house was actually used to hide underground railroad people that were moving right up the Grand Trunk (Railway) into Canada."

Moore has plans to renovate the property and make it a community gathering spot.

"A learning museum possibly with different rooms from the era," Bishop said.

In the meantime, the mayor said Moore promised to be more attentive and wants to move forward with renovations soon.

"He was very apologetic and ready to move forward and work with me and the city in the future on doing projects in the next several years," Bishop said.

Updates could also be coming to the Michael Moore-owned building next to the house.

I hope you don't think I am bashing him. I think this story shows just how down to earth he really is.

I'm lucky enough to have met him more than a few times. I used to work at the printing company he used for his underground newspaper 'The Flint Voice' and saw and talked to him just about every week. Later I was in a group that awarded him with the Paul Wellstone award, and spent a lot of time with him, that night at the dinner. He's a great guy - really.

Michael always has good intentions but I think he tends to spread himself far too far.

MY hope is that he will start spending more time, back here in the Flint area, and develop his family home into some sort of social center. Then maybe really throw himself into the work needed in restoring his home town. Michael isn't getting any younger - I know that, for certain because we are just a year apart.

that might have something to do with the oversight.

Sounds like he has some good ideas for the place.

I love how he made an appointment with the Mayor! Bet that was unexpected.

I'm thinking about taking a drive to Davison, to see the house. I've probably driven past it numerous times.

The Mayor should go through official channels or keep his mouth shut.

6. Well, he kind of did, and sent out two notices but the property management company had disappeared

There was a total break down in communication and Michael didn't get the notifications. And, unfortunately, when Michael was here, in Flint, during the water crisis, he didn't check on the house. Maybe now that his Dad is gone, he doesn't make going to Davison a priority.

I have no doubt Michael will see this doesn't happen again. Hopefully he can start work on rehabbing the house. It looks like a really nice place.
