Expectant mother on life support, baby survives, after shooting. Heartbreaking story of gun violence

I drove by this complex, every time I went to see my Mom. No word, yet, on any motive behind this happening. So sad.

GRAND BLANC — About 24 hours after being shot Lyric Work's family says she was declared brain dead. Work was shot at the Grand Oaks Apartments in Grand Blanc Tuesday afternoon.

Work and her co-worker Tamara Johnson were both leasing agents for the complex. Johnson died Tuesday. Work remains on life support as of Wednesday night. Her boyfriend Kyle Kindt says her organs will be donated before she is taken off life support.

Lyric work was expecting a baby girl when she was shot. Now, her boyfriend, who is the father of her child, is trying to process losing the love of his life.

"I'm heartbroken, don't know what to say, what to feel," said Kyle Kindt, Lyric's Boyfriend. "That's my rock, you know, now I'm mommy and daddy."

Kindt says the two were high school sweethearts. He says 20-year-old Lyric was very eager to start her new life of motherhood.

"She was so happy to have the baby. I know she was going to be a great mom," said Kindt.

Instead of the normal delivery the baby was delivered by emergency Cesarean section..

"The only thing keeping me going right now is Marley our baby girl, I held her for the first time today," said Kindt.

Kindt is already in love with his new daughter, but trying to grasp losing the person who has been by his side for so many years.

"She was a great person. She was caring, nice, would go out of her way for people," said Kindt.

A friend of the family is helping raise money through a GoFundMe account to help with medical bills and anything else the family may need as they grieve.

The person believed responsible for the shooting is now in police custody. The suspect is a resident of the apartment complex.

Police say charges could be issued against the suspect Thursday.
