Just Because E-Cigs Are Better For You Doesn't Mean They're Healthyhttp://www.wxyz.com/newsy/just-because-ecigs-are-better-for-you-doesnt-mean-theyre-healthy

If you're one of the estimated 9 million Americans who regularly uses electronic cigarettes, we've got some bad news for you.
Researchers from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory examined the chemicals that you're actually ingesting when you vape. The results showed that e-cigarettes can carry many of the same risks as regular combustible cigarettes.
Researchers found that 31 different toxic chemicals are present in e-cigarette vapor. Like regular cigarettes and tobacco products, many vapor products contain chemicals that can cause cancer.

A press release for the study read in part: "Advocates of e-cigarettes say emissions are much lower than from conventional cigarettes, so you're better off using e-cigarettes but the problem is, it doesn't mean that they're healthy. Regular cigarettes are super unhealthy. E-cigarettes are just unhealthy."

Let the accusations that I am a tobacco industry shill trying to ban e-cigs begin in 5...4...3...

(19,460 posts)I was a light smoker but now I feel better, run faster, hike farther than ever before. I can also control the amount of nicotine I am getting. Of course vaping is not healthy, but cigs are worse. I can not disagree with the article.

(45,319 posts)that assertion the argument seems sort of silly. The argument made is that they are less harmful, and this article does not contradict that.

(52,253 posts)they acknowledge that nicotine addiction isn't a good thing, but they insist that there are no other problems for them and also no problems at all for anyone around them.

(45,319 posts)So again, they don't claim it's healthy. Also, by the way, nicotine is an optional addition to vaping and pure nicotine is a toxin, no one ever uses pure nicotine for pleasure.
So they don't sound like the sharpest blades in the butcher block but they also didn't say 'vaping is healthy' but rather 'isn't a good thing'. The argument in the OP is a man of straw.

"E-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than tobacco and could be prescribed on the NHS in future to help smokers quit," BBC News reports.
This is the main finding of an evidence review carried out by Public Health England, a government agency that aims to protect and improve the nation's health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities.

(111,272 posts)but just about anything is better than sucking concentrated tobacco smoke into your lungs.
Just watch those weasel words like "can," "may," "might" and a few others. Those translate to "we're just guessing here."

(825 posts)I survived stage 2B cervical cancer after 2 months of chemo and radiation (Thank you Mayo Clinic). My oncologist told me that nicotine is like throwing gas on a fire for women who have HPV. Not smoking per se but the chemical nicotine and its interaction with HPV.
If you have HPV and you smoke or vape I strongly suggest PAPs every 6 months if you can get them. The time between PAPs for me was 14 month (I was 2 months late for my annual physical) and boom... cancer.
