The bothersome negative poll numbers of Hillary Clinton.

It's difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that Hillary's negative numbers are up in the stratosphere with Donald Trump's negatives. Why?

After she had left her Secretary of State position but before she announced she was going to run for the Presidency, her positive poll numbers were above 60% ?? She was liked by both Democrats and Republicans. What happened since then?

If polls are mostly evenly divided amongst Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, it is easy to see how almost all Republicans would dislike Hillary. They have been pilloried with negative comments and ridicule from right-wing propaganda radio and print. With about half of the Independents and 15-20% of Democrats being exposed to the same negative stories, day in and day out, I could see how so many people could dislike and not trust her. The right-wing media has a very strong influence on political polling, in my opinion.

Everything is a "scandal" to the right-wingers. It doesn't matter that she has not been found guilty on any of their fabricated charges. It is enough for them just to charge her with wrongdoing. There is no judge or jury. In their eyes, she is guilty. They have been engaged in this exercise for almost 25 years now. We cannot expect them to change their opinions overnight.

If she can get almost all of the Democrats on her side, then it will not matter that much what the polls say about her. Unfortunately, some Bernie supporters and a few Democrats are under a right-wing spell and the Party may need an exorcism to bring them back into the fold.

it also plays into misogyny, as women are held to a higher standard and women are not forgiven as easily.

friends of mine (who i expect nevertheless to vote for hillary because they know trump is a disaster) "just have an instinctively negative reaction to hillary".

this is because and why republicans have accused and investigated her for anything and everything for decades. because our media is inept, crap like that works.

There are a lot of Democrats I have talked with who are bothered by things that she ha admtted. Breaking rules (put in place because of similar behavior to put a stop to it) designed to facilitate transpareny is a problem for a lot of people who believe that it is as unacceptable to hide electronic communications as it is to shred hard copies. The good news is, for myself and others I have talked with those numbers among Democrats may be movable showing that secrecy it is not a pattern, and that she is not itching to go to war. A lot of us are going to vote for her regardless of our reluctance, but that doesn't mean there won't be demands for accountability and some shifts in policy positions.
The only reason anyone would have standards is the hope that a candidate will meet them.

they have never liked Hillary, but that via the convention and her speech, the have "learned things about her I never knew," and that they will now "enthusiastically" vote for her.

Why the overnight change?

Character assassination works, and no one has had to endure said assassination for decades as has Hillary. People believe that where there's smoke, there's fire, and the RWNM has produced plenty of smoke against Hillary for decades.

Over the course of this primary season, DU has been a virtual vomitorium of regurgitated RW lies told about Hillary over the decades. We like to believe that we're smarter than to allow ourselves to be taken in by propaganda, but guess what? We're not. We eat it up along with the truly less informed, if for no other reason than the fact that the people producing the propaganda know how to push buttons we didn't even know were there to be pushed.

That's why her negatives are still high. Human beings are basically lazy, especially intellectually. It's no mystery. It's human nature.

The entire DNC convention was full of pro-Hillary propaganda.

Hillary is not the person that was projected all week - she's a calculating, pandering, hawkish, hard-nosed politician.

And she needs to be all of that and more if she wants to get anything done in Washington as President.

I wish she was all of the magical things we were fed, but no one is - it was just a week-long campaign ad.

Remember this,it is all in the questions and how the wording is laid out. Did polling for a major company in 2000 and the real truth is,the wanted outcome is all in the questions. Why would anyone spend money for something that does not meet their wanted finished product. So be careful when reading polls,if you have a chance, try and find the Q&A methodology . Interesting.

I've only ever been called for the crappy marketing ones.

The media love to pounce on them for the drama, which lends them the appearance of more credibility then they deserve.

engage the Pollster, where is located, usually it is some College Kid trying to increase his creed. Listen to the sounds in the background, hilarious. Make the Pollster slow down his speech cadence or say can you speak more clearly, usually they are using a non noise canceling head set. Reason I say this is,one can tell the real Professionalism of the Polling Firm. And the high buck firms generally work Conservative Issues where as the Dems are money strapped and use tons of Volunteers.

If I believed that she was actually referring to the deaths of four Americans in the 2012 Benghazi attack when she said "What difference does it make..." I would hate her also. I know, however, and as the recording FOR ALL TO SEE on YouTube shows, she was NOT referring to the fact of those deaths but, instead, the stated immediate reason for the attack as the investigation was ongoing.

IMHO this is the single most pernicious lie told by her attackers and they tell it OVER AND OVER again. Once again, IMHO, this needs to be the sole topic of an ad vividly demonstrating the lies her political adversaries are willing to convince the American people of to further their personal partisan agendas.

President Bill Clinton, President Obama. One poll that explained what I think is a factor came out when GWB was in office. Something to the effect of who would you want to drink a beer with. The bubba effect.

I watch President Obama and see that twinkle in his eyes the little grin he gets before he is going to say something I know will get me laughing.

Same thing with President Clinton.

Going back to President Carter IIRC how people thought of him even republicans on the bubba scale I'm pretty sure was high.

Mrs. Clinton was on a late night show where the host talked about that likeability factor and had her say something. He would critic what she said. It was fun watching, but thinking about it does fit why numbers being low. When she smiles and has that twinkle in her eyes I think that's it. That's what will help.

Dipshit donnie on the other hand there may be a drink a beer with him effect, but it's a drink a beer with your obnoxious drunk uncle effect.

And add media and those send to everyone you know emails to save the U.S.A. stuff has made it worse. If dipshit donnie had emails sent out like that on him his would even be worse then what they are now.

It's going to go back and forward for the simple reason, that once one person starts getting ahead... all the media forces and narrative tries to make things back even. We won't know who is the likely winner until the last few weeks. Just keep supporting in the meantime and most important...vote.

merely because someone is accused of wrongdoing does not make it so. The right wingers make up issue after issue. They did this to Obama (Fast and Furious and a few others). People need to consider the source of the accusation and what motives they have instead of always assuming where there is smoke there is fire. No there is just manufactured smoke. People have some inherent bias to think negatively of others and are too willing to allow someone to be tainted by mere suggestion and allegation.
