House Republicans Standing In The Way Of 3 Million Jobs

Wednesday, June 13, 7:35 PM

Sen. Barbara Boxer used an earthmover as a backdrop Wednesday for what has become her weekly public push for a transportation bill, but she used a blunt instrument to deliver her message.

In a sharp turn of tone, Boxer and a half-dozen other Democratic senators — joined by construction and union leaders — described the Republicans who have objected to conference committee proposals as extremists who are holding the bill hostage for political gain, want to scuttle transportation funding and should hang their heads in shame.

“There is only one group standing in the way of the bill, only one group standing in the way of 3 million jobs,” Boxer said. “Those are the House Republicans. They are standing in the way of progress.”

Though the House is not in session this week, conference committee members have continued to swap proposals aimed at reaching agreement on the latest iteration of a $109 billion, two-year transportation bill passed by the Senate last year. Transportation funding is now operating under a temporary extension that expires June 30.

Boehner was not able to get the House to agree on its own bill, and he appears to have struggled in getting some of his members to support the conference committee proposals. He suggested last week that a six-month extension was under discussion.

“It’s not all Republicans,” Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said at Boxer’s news conference. “We had great Republican support in the Senate. Nor is it all Republicans in the House. But there are 100 people — militants, radicals, extremists — who actually believe the federal government should not be involved in highways.”

Seriously... prosecute every Repug in Congress on the grounds that they are standing in the way of progress in this country and turning us into a 1400s style backwards theocracy. Lock them up and throw away the key.

every republican who has taken an oath to Grover Norquist, who has stated that they are against any bill submitted by the President, who has not voted for or submitted any bill(s) for economic growth and stability, should be arrested. They should be charged with treason and conspiracy to commit treason. I think that "force" does not necessarily mean "armed force", but the repugs use "refusal" as their show of force.

4. Ah, but those are the 'wrong' kind of jobs hiring the 'wrong' kind of people.
Thu Jun 14, 2012, 12:45 AM

Those would build 'public' infrastructure, might even increase the Commons, which would be 'wrong.'

Federal jobs may require a 'prevailing wage.' Can't have that. 'Wrong' to pay that when it might make that working class less thrifty. Or uppity.

And those jobs would be double 'wrong' because they don't discriminate among applicants, may encourage more hiring of the 'wrong' people, like women and minorities, instead of some GOP family.

See, quadruple wrong. Nope, it'll never pass as long as that bunch rules the roost. The country be damned, full steam... Back wards!

Insert as required.

7. Oh, they support them, when they've filibustered them long enough to only allow a toll road built by

Their Republican base, with tolls too high for the commoners to pay for going on the road they traveled for generations, paid to their backers. I've seen them carry on for years obstructing for this or that cause, when it's all about those contracts they want. Rock, meet snake.

Obama can never satisfy them, no matter how many privatizations he works with them on which catches hell from the Democratic base. And after all, he just showed his red-commie self, that they said he was all along, don't ya know.

He said the private sector was okay in comparison with the public sector, which the GOP is determined to destroy. That clip has to be shortened to make it look as though he doesn't care about the common man, which Romney represents so very well, don't you know?

Insert and where needed. Yes, few people born before the Reagan era would recognize they are, in the classic sense, a boatload of fascists.
