Clinton Spending Big on Olympics Ads With Trump on Sidelines

Ads during the Olympics might help Clinton connect with a demographic group where she has struggled: men.

Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is planning to spend more on political ads broadcasts during the Summer Olympics than either nominee four years ago.

The Democratic effort has placed at least $5.5 million on reservations on the NBC network, which owns Olympic broadcast rights, during the 17-day games in Rio de Janeiro, according to data from Kantar Media/CMAG. Based on reservations placed so far, almost 40 percent of her television spending next week will be on the national network.

The advertising during the sporting extravaganza, which formally opens with a ceremony Friday evening, comes as Clinton seeks to build on polling gains over Donald Trump following the completion of the Republican and Democratic national conventions last month.

The Republican nominee, meanwhile, hasn't spent anything on television ads since early May and has no time reserved as of now for the rest of the summer or fall.

...

Hillary's doing what any competent Presidential candidate is doing - spending big on advertising, and building a big ground game. Trump has no ground game, and he's not even spending money on ads. He's counting on his "earned media" strategy of acting like a drama queen to get the media to advertise for him for free.

Except my take is that there is only one thing the media loves more than propping up a drama queen to make news as addictive as reality TV: Tearing apart a drama queen to make news as addictive as reality TV.

Watching Trump's dismemberment over the next few months will be quite the sight!

Meanwhile, Hillary's continuing to build her wave of momentum - she's gonna eat Trump alive!

Hopefully Hillary is buying during the most watched American events - basketball, Phelps, etc.

The media continues to relentlessly cover Trump as a "reality show celebrity." But the public at large has long since grown very weary of his shtick.

The one thing the media loves even more than propping up a drama-queen-celebrity like Donald Trump is engineering the messy and dramatic downfall of the same drama-queen-celebrities.

Nothing sells like scandal, and when the scandal-o-meter is high enough, the media will tear him to pieces. In fact, it's already doing so. I think Trump's shitty remarks towards Khizr Khan was the straw the broke the camel's back.
