Republicans speaking out against Trump are being looked upon as rational, sane, decent people. However, they need to be called out for their hypocrisy up until this moment.
For decades now, the Republican Party has been a hotbed of racism, exclusion, divisiveness, and obstructionism. And these "decent, sane" Republicans didn't say one single goddamn word.
Yet, we are now looking at them with a degree of respect. As far as I'm concerned, they don't deserve any compliments. They knew very well what the Republican Party was doing by using code words and dog whistles. They are part and parcel of all the things that generated anger, hatred and made Trump possible.
"Decent, sane, Republicans?" Damn them to hell.
And please don't tell me about "redemption." If Trump wasn't here, they'd still be the same miserable shits they have always have been.

You think I should go over and argue with them now about how horrible they are for voting Clinton over Trump/Nukes in 2016?

I'm worried about those who will.
You're looking at a single example. I'm looking at that segment of hostile, violent people who are a part of every Trump rally.
And you just know he's going to be sitting in his penthouse, urging them on with his endless tweets.
Trump is a guy who doesn't forget a single insult. IMO, he will be out for revenge in whatever form it takes.

(44,131 posts)I thought your thread was about Republicans who are condemning Trump? Sorry if I was mistaken.

(82,849 posts)There's no reset button at this point. Republicans have to do some serious penance for the last 40 years of misgoverning.
There was a cartoon many years ago in the National Lampoon. Seedy looking guy in a seedy looking upper story room. Bullet holes on the wall, smoking gun in hand, pile of money on the bed. Seedy looking guy yells down out the window, "Okay coppers, here's twenty bucks that says let's forget the whole thing."
Yeah . . . no.

(82,849 posts)But I do think a public assessment of their ruinous political policies and some kind of apology or penance needs to be served. I'm not willing to just say "Well, you tried to destroy the country with your misguided policies, and we can argue all day long about whose economic plans created such a huge wealth inequality gap, so let's just say everybody made mistakes, and here, have another go at it. I'm sure you Republicans have learned a little lesson about using the government to govern. Right?"

(7,906 posts)away from the White House is fine with me. There is far too much at stake to risk a potential tRump presidency.
I've only described them as sane and rational. I'll take that for now.

(7,901 posts)They seem more upset that he's such a public asshole than that he's really said anything they haven't advocated in RW code, or more guarded language, or more clauses hidden in last minute additions to the law or appropriation act.
I do not consider them sane nor decent. I am not entirely sure that I consider them to be human.
Vampires are said to be the un-dead who remain alive by consuming the blood of humans. Given the decades of past behavior of many prominent GOP members I feel this is an apt description.
