Guam Regional Medical City reopens pediatric unit

The Guam Regional Medical City’s Pediatrics Department reopens Sunday, three weeks after suspending its ability to admit children in-patients because of a shortage of round-the-clock nurses.

The private hospital aggressively recruited additional local and stateside nurses after some of its previous nurse staff members, who were hired on foreign work visas, weren’t given renewals by federal immigration authorities.

“We have successfully recruited more than 25 new nurses over the past three months,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Charlotte Huntsman.

She said the hiring of the 25 additional nurses occurred even with a nationwide shortage of nurses.
