The intermission video is most definitely The Chicks, though. The accompanying video is of one of the sisters (can't remember which one offhand) in a psychedelic car chase.

(Check out Hayseed Dixie's version of Gin n Juice, by the way. One of the greatest covers ever.)

Bar None!

These two girls are Dixie Chicks' biggest fans ever. just went to their concert on the shoreline last month, and they were in heaven. They know every single lyric to every track on every CD they own. Not sure if they own them all. but that would be my guess.

my youngest can cite every name and all of the instruments each member plays on each track. She even managed to get herself a mandolin so she can play along! the older one plays fiddle. mostly air play, but you know they're working on it!

They're just so adorable and talented too.

Oh, and yeah ... so are the Dixie Chicks.

I mean Cash, Haggard, Willie, Waylon, and the boys... and Patsy Cline, of course.

Almost all of the "country music" they play today is just standard pop with affected Southern accents.

Can't imagine the shit they went through during the W regime.

Natalie Maines got so much crap not just for what she said, but because she said it. Right or wrong, the ol' "shut up and sing" or "shut up and act" thing runs strong in this country. There are a lot of people out there that simply don't want a rich and privileged celebrity preaching politics to them. A great comparison is Tim McGraw/Faith Hill. They are well known to be Democrats, but they rarely say a word on politics.

Trump, as extreme as his statements are, is, at least attempting, to be a politician; thus people expect and accept that he will say negative things about other politicians.

because they said something against a Republican president, period. No false equivalence. If they had said the same thing about Obama (see comments by Hank Williams Jr) their album sales would have soared. I have a close friend who was in country radio at that time who admitted it was who she criticized not what she said. "She went against her market." It's not that Trump is trying to be a politician, it's that he is saying crazy things this audience agrees with, which I believe is much worse, and very dangerous.

She tells the truth and the wingers just think it's hell. Hell is what would happen if their favorite asshole gets elected.

Also - Of course, they are hypocrites. They are repugs and hypocrisy is mandatory to be a true part of the party. You can't promote obvious lies unless you are a hypocrite and that's what repugs do each and every day.

That's my claim to fame. Love her, though. I saw her perform with James Taylor at the 2004 Vote For Change Grand Finale concert and she was unbelievable. Her performance of Sweet Baby James was a stand-out and that's really saying something in a concert that included REM, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne...

C&W music has been in a downward spiral for some time, now---both as to the quality of the music, and the character of the "artists." So glad that the Dixie Chicks are staging what looks like a solid comeback after all these years. Their talent and principles offset some of what's happened to C&W.
