I'm sensing a changing attitude toward the ride share company, in the real world and right here in DU.
My personal experiences with them have been great. They show up fast. The drivers tend to be ordinary people who are mostly friendly. I think it is an improvement over cab company cabs and cabbies.
What is the current sense of DU toward Uber?

(1,735 posts)was a form of union busting. Unionized cabbies have to conform to many regulations while Uber does not. Perhaps it's time to reduce some of those regulations and impose others on Uber. I'd be afraid to call them at this time because I live in a very large troubled city and see problems here with drivers frequently.

(62,270 posts)That's utterly, incredibly, absurd. To drive a taxi there.
I'd be for a glut of Uber drivers with a 5% chance they are terrible, than to pay in to TLC's medallion bullshit.
As would many cabbies, I would argue.

(2,593 posts)We thought it was great. Our driver was a retired school teacher. She was very pleasant and provided interesting conversation.
For health reasons, my husband can no longer drive so our son and daughter set up the Uber app for him so that he could maintain some sense of independence. We live in a suburban area with no access to public transportation and minimal cab service, so this turns out to be a wonderful option.

Uber kinda illustrates the future world with driverless cars. Which is going to happen. Soon.

Taxi drivers also tend to be ordinary people who are mostly friendly.

(15,317 posts)Still won't use them. I don't care how much other people like them. Their abuse of workers and attacks on regulations that protect them and consumers, and the effects on industry are the reasons why. I encourage everyone else who feels like I do to keep up the good work spreading the word.
