Baltimore prosecutor on woman reporting rape: ‘Seems like a conniving little whore’

After a Baltimore woman reported her rape to police, the prosecutor on the case shared his thoughts with an officer. “I am not excited about charging it,” the unnamed official wrote in an email. “This victim seems like a conniving little whore.”

“Lmao!” the officer wrote back. “I feel the same.”

The Justice Department unearthed the exchange in a sprawling Aug. 10 report on the Baltimore Police Department, which found rampant discrimination against black residents, a tendency to use excessive force and a rash of illegal arrests.

Toward the end of the 167 pages was another bombshell: Officers frequently dismissed or mishandled sexual assault complaints. They often neglected to interview suspects or send DNA evidence to laboratories. Between 2010 and 2014, authorities tested rape kits in just 15 percent of adult-victim sexual assault cases.

The Justice Department concluded that “gender bias” had infected investigations. “In their interviews with women reporting sexual assault,” investigators wrote, “BPD officers ask women questions such as ‘Why are you messing up that guy’s life?’ ”

This crap should be getting more airplay. I'd hazard to guess that Baltimore PD is not alone in these behaviors.

In the late 80's I was a Victim Advocate in the states attorney office. I heard variations of that regarding domestic abuse victims and sexual assault victims, from attorneys and investigators. It shocked the hell out of me.

The roadblocks for women set up by stupid, misogynist men are just impossible to overcome.

Just look at all the awful stuff she has endured. But she just kept on trucking.

God bless her.

of a backlash of this kind against women? Just like we saw with Obama and racism. It is and was always there, but it just seemed to stoke the flames. Not that I don't want her to win, but the haters will come out in full force. Of that I have no doubt.

I don't know how she does it. I would buckle after the first 10 minutes.

She just seems able to blow this awful stuff off and keep on truckin.

It probably really is the same hate coming from the same people who hate Obama. He could walk on water and it would make no difference to those people. Hillary isn't black but she is just as bad. She is a woman. A woman with a lot of power.

Having a black president has literally empowered a certain strain of racism and having a woman president is likely to empower a certain strain of sexism.

it is, of course, not a good reason to avoid electing people of color or women, but it's a sort of counter intuitive backlash that is really fucking frustrating.

Hopefully, this bullshit will turn more people off to racism and sexism as it brings it out into the light.

I had to have been very sheltered.

And those circumstances are why I am shocked.
