Grand Traverse County GOP (MI) kicks out former Gov. Milliken after he endorses Hillary

Grand Traverse County Republicans have voted to no longer recognize Gov. William Milliken as a Republican. Party delegates passed the resolution at a convention in Grand Traverse County on Thursday night.

Milliken, a longtime Traverse City resident who is the longest serving governor in Michigan history, announced that he was endorsing Democrat Hillary Clinton for president last week.

“It’s just the final straw,” says Jason Gillman, a county delegate and former Grand Traverse County Commissioner who wrote the resolution.

He also endorsed Gary Peters, one of our TWO Democratic Senators.

Maybe Governor Miliken will take the opportunity and join the good guys.

Funny but the thing I remember most about him, as Governor, was my impression that he is a really nice guy.

Up until Engler, Michigan was pretty lucky with our Governors. At least in my lifetime.

If a former Democratic Governor endorsed the last four Republican candidates for President, I'd advocate he be thrown out of the party as well.

While any reasonable Republican SHOULD BY ALL MEANS reject Trump, it's hard to argue this guy is still a Republican any more than Zell Miller is a Democrat.

I don't know your age, and am not asking, but politics was not always as it is today. Granted there was the McCarthy era and some other periods when parties were overrun with power and ideology. But republicans did not denigrate democrats as they have for the past 20 years. It just wasn't like that.

A Trump would never have made it in the "old" days. Poisoning citizens and children in Michigan would not and did not happen. In Michigan its not as if regulations haven't been lax. There was a time when our water / environmental issues were very bad b/c of businesses and the public's magical beliefs that water could hide toxins. And of course there are some historical horrific stories of mining in the UP.

But nothing approached the lack of common decency that is seen today, among the voters or the politicians. That said, Milliken would not have endorsed a Democrat in the past days but the Trump mess moves everyone to make diff. choices.

Milliken is a well respected Michigan figure who is a private citizen. If this is the TC GOP response to this man, then this guy is about as smart as the Domino CEO who threw out Ernie Harwell from baseball.

What a jerk. But that's what we have in this state. Jerks 24/7, all day, everyday.
