An Ohio boy was wandering around a busy area downtown Franklin, Ohio with his stuffed animal in hands Sunday afternoon. He was trying to sell the toy to get some food. He hadnt eaten for several days, according to police who helped him.
Officer Steve Dunham found the unnamed 7-year-old trying to sell his stuffed animal outside a drug store, after police received a phone call.
The boy wanted money to buy food.
Dunham then took the boy to a nearby Subway restaurant, where they each got a sandwich, Franklin Police Chief Russ Whitman told RT. Then they headed to the police station, where they said a prayer together and ate their dinner.
In the meantime, other officers were sent to the boys home. There they discovered that the 7-year-old and his four brothers were living in squalor. The home was filled with garbage, cat urine and liquor bottles, investigators said.
The officers fed two of the brothers, ages 10 and 13, at the home, Whitman said. Dunham joined the other officers at the scene, while the boy stayed at the police station. There, the dispatcher on duty took care of him, and let him watch cartoons.
The five boys have been placed with a family member, the police chief told RT. Their parents, Tammy and Michael Bethel, were charged with 10 counts of child endangerment. They were arraigned on Tuesday, and the municipal court judge issued a no-contact order between the Bethels and their sons until the case is resolved.

(16,254 posts)It makes one wonder how many cases aren't discovered until it's nearly too late. One gets to the point where you can hardly read the newspaper accounts because you know the victims have been suffering so.
In the meantime, people are spending millions of dollars on this fiasco of an election and begging for more.
Something is out of whack!

(19,258 posts)Unfortunately, there's nothing stopping bad people from having children, or bad parents from having more children.
I knew a family friend when I was a teenager who completely ignored her daughter, just fed her, changed her and put her in a playpen all day, to the point the girl couldn't walk or speak until she was past 3 yr old. My sister, bless her, began going over to their house daily and playing with her, reading to her, taking her to the park, etc, which is the only reason that little girl grew up to be a halfway normal human being instead of a resident of a psyc ward.

(1,048 posts)I'm in the upper management part of our child welfare agency but I see stories like this far too often. People are always so focused on physical child abuse because thats where you will see child death stories on the news, but its neglect where you get the most deaths in child welfare, and there are so many kids you see every day with no bruises but are so hungry and have health issues as a result of that.
