On Friday night, the officer was making a traffic stop on a car, while he approached, he was shot as the car drove off. The car had 3 suspects in it, they drove to a rest area on where the attempted to carjack another vehicle and shot another person. The 3 suspects are in custody. The officer has been a police officer for only 2 years. Very sad.

(2,344 posts)town about three hours from Albuquerque and close to my home town Silver City NM. Lots of 2A apologists in these small NM communities. May the officer RIP. I feel so sad for his family. Lives forever changed.

(849 posts)The shooter(s) are Ohio transients running from a murder spree in Ohio.
Buncha white fellers shooting a NM hispanic cop along with some poor soul
at a highway rest stop shooting him to carjack his car. Best thoughts for
the victims and hopefully the small NM community cops can find a nice
isolated desolate mexican border area to lose these three

(2,344 posts)The 2A folks will here no word against the shooters. They will at a minimum uninvolve themselves until the dust blows over and then start hawking their 2A rights to anyone that will listen.

(2,344 posts)that the gun lovers I know esp. in Grant County close to Hatch do not care where the shooter is from. They will be quiet while the topic is fresh on every one's minds and when this discussion dies down they will start hawking their 2A rights to anyone that will listen.
Not sure how that is hard to understand. For the most part it's my opinion. I'm not arguing and I don't know why that got a rude huh? from you but have a pleasant evening none the less.

(2,883 posts)What they're not doing is shrieking "Gun control!!!" before Officer Chavez has been buried. His death hits too close to home to serve a political purpose.

(6,829 posts)Another sacrifice to our precious "second amendment freedoms".
Statistically, cops job's aren't even close to being the most dangerous out there. Still, a cop dying in the line of duty is sad and tragic and a civil society would fix this!

(25,816 posts)When traveling from SE AZ to Albuquerque you can cut off several miles by going through
Hatch. I eat at the Pepper Pot. Hatch is the home of Hatch chile, some of the best
around. The road to Hatch from Deming is pretty but unpopulated. That must be where
this happened. After Hatch, you're on the freeway.
