which is a separate entity; and the funds have to be reported to the FEC. Trump is already making bags of money from his candidacy because the campaign hires only his hotels and vendors to supply services.

last I heard, so his campaign will be able to pay him back from donations (and I wonder if he's already done that). I believe that remaining donations can be saved for him to run for another office in 2018 and that he can donate them to other candidates for office.

The campaign is required to pay its obligations, incuding debts to the candidate and companies he owns or contols.

He cannot legally convert campaign funds to his own use, but debts to him and his companies may be paid. Who is going to pay him back? The campaign, duh!

So he is going to pay himself back with his own money? That makes no sense. Two things. Many campaigns end in debt and never pay back their creditors. Second his companies are not supplying any money to the campaign. It is illegal for companies to donate to federal campaigns. Any money is coming from him personally.

All of this is conjecture. But he did say he was the best at gaming the system.

The loan he gave can go straight back in to his pocket. One thing to I wonder is what are the terms on the loan itself? Is he charging interest to the campaign? Also I'm pretty sure the campaign can keep all the money left over from he raised and say they are thinking about another run for office. Doing that he could slowly siphon it off saying it is being used for exploratory studies for another office run. He wouldn't be able to pay for a vacation unless it was some how justifiable as campaign related for future campaigns.

According to the FEC, if a candidate does have money left over in their campaign war chest they can contribute the dollars to a charity, return the money to contributors, hold on to it for a future election, or donate it to their designated party.

In the old days (the 1980s), candidates could keep the money. Campaign funds were more like retirement accounts or slush funds than actual campaign funds.

It's one of the very few ways we've actually cleaned up politics.

He also pays family businesses to work for the campaign (again, for high rates) and you can bet he pays them first. Altho he claimed the loans he made the campaign have been converted to donations, the last I heard they had not been, per FEC filing.
