The premise of that article is that this campaign is run so badly and the candidate is so out of control that the only alternative to superhuman levels of arrogance is the theory that he never really wanted to win.

No, really, he is that arrogant. He is that out of control. He is that vulgar. He really is that despicable.

Nonetheless, I do believe this was an accidental candidacy. I do believe he ran to promote the Trump brand and never really expected the field would be such a gaggle of complete chumps. And they were such chumps that the few that actually had some legitimate credentials (Jeb Bush, Christie, Kasich) could never get out of the starting gate. I continue to believe that Trump fully expected the party bosses to show up one day and say "OK, enough Donald. You have had your fun. You have promoted the Trump brand. We'll set you up with the inside track on development deals worth $10B if you step aside now."

But the Party never did that. They are all idiots.
