Who would have guessed that I have something in common with Joe Biden

At my old job, I worked with an extreme and very vocal neo con survivalist and rabid second amendment supporter. We were friendly because she is also a gardener and we shared advice, ideas and seeds.

When my nephew enlisted in the Air Force, I was talking with a group of friends and said I was so proud of him but had Bush still been in office, I would have thrown myself in front of my nephew to prevent him from enlisting and having that coward as his commander-in- chief.

When this individual started getting all defensive and self-righteously patriotic, and called me out for being less than an adequate citizen, I looked at her and said "I'm saying this Navy veteran who served who served honorably, with both a Democratic and Republican President. What branch were you in?" knowing full well she had never been in the military.

To her credit, she didn't say anything further - she just turned around and walked away. We never again talked anything but casual conversations about family and gardening.
