The Republican Party has spent the last 50 years trying to scare the hell out of the American people and making them hate "The Other."
The Democratic Party has consistenly opposed them by selling hope and a postive vision of what we can become.
Donald Trump has tripled and quadrupled down on fear and hatred. And this is why he's going to lose and lose big.
There are many, many ignorant, frightened people who will vote for him. But there are not nearly enough of them to put him in the White House.
At some point, sanity kicks in. There are not too many people who would want to see an impulsive, irrational man having immediate access to the nuclear codes. There are not too many people who would want a president who ignores the United States constitution. There are not too many Americans who would trust an impulsive manchild making decisions that affect the entire world.
Donald Trump will never get to be "The Emporer" he wants to be.
But he will leave behind a legacy of anger and hatred that will not go away too quickly. That anger and hatred has always been there, and he has opened the door to all of it being shouted from the rooftops by ignorant, angry, hateful people.
Not too much we can do about that. However, i believe history will treat Trump as a major villian. The Trump name will hereafter be treated as a poison spewed up from the depths of a diseased sewer.
On edit: I don't think Trump saw this coming. But he's going to spend the rest of his life as puch line.

(7,947 posts)Constant anger, villains, poison, diseased sewers. Have to hate those things. At least fear them anyway.
Fear is a better motivator than hope. What you wrote being a perfect example.

The Democratic Party often embraces slogans about hope. But their campaign strategy? Their single most prevalent campaign talking point is about how we should hate and fear "the other" and get in line to cast what, for so many, is a lesser evil vote.
It happens every four years. It's happening now.
Your own post confirms it.

There are "not too many" who will want to see Trump in the WH. Therefore, no matter how unpopular Clinton may be, she'll get the votes AGAINST Trump. Because people hate and fear him. People will be lining up to vote for Clinton because they hate and fear "the other."

After his stint with Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn,he new the power of the negative message and hired pros to promote negative propaganda and take no prisoner Political Action Groups. And here we are today, looking at another of their demagogues, and in that,we have the real chance of changing these discussions to something positive instead of hatred and more hatred which tends to sell soap.
