http://bangordailynews.com/2016/08/20/news/portland/giant-snake-skin-found-near-river-in-westbrook/WESTBROOK, Maine Westbrook police are warning residents after a large snake skin was found near the Presumpscot River on Saturday.
Police said a resident reported finding a shed snake skin along the Presumpscot River around 3 p.m. near the carry-in boat launch in the area of Riverbank Park.
Westbrook police officers photographed, collected and tagged the skin, which will be examined in attempts to determine what type of snake it came from and what risks this type of snake poses to public safety.
Police say until the type of snake is determined and police can assess the safety risk, they are cautioning people who recreate along the Presumpscot River to remain alert, maintain a safe distance from any wildlife, and report any sightings of the snake to the Westbrook Police Department.

The Penobscot is farther north - and the poor kid who drowned fell off the railroad bridge in Orono (which I admit I crossed many times in not the best state).
The Presumpscot is in southern Maine near Portland.
and no - i don't think kids should be swimming there until after next winter...

(46,179 posts)Maybe they don't really want to catch it, since it's been seen feeding by officers. They might like the local snake monster legend.

Someone would have noticed NO?? - The photo is poor, but it looks like there is more than one thin tail...a large snake skin - someone has a sick sense of humor....anaconda - largest 134ft????? Oh, my!! Maybe - but then, colleges - 5 colleges in the area..prank?? - still sick!!

If you have a pet - you need to care for it - forever.
Don't care if it's a snake or a goldfish.

It's that simple and it's non-negotiable. They are your family.

(15,429 posts)Sadly, it will simply suffer in torpor until it finally freezes to death. Even if it's found alive after the first frost, it's unlikely they could do anything to help it to survive.
