We have a huge special education program. We age a ESL program that needs resources. We have a large migrant group of students who move annually. We can't even begin to compare to Finland.

Congress passed an amendment to the Voting Rights Act in 1970, which prohibited residency requirements that long, in 1970.

Third, Congress mandated that the states had to allow a citizen to vote in a presidential election
if he was registered to vote thirty days before the election took place.

Basically, they don't have our social and economic diversity and the problems that go with them. They also aren't as mobile: They tend to stay put, so, their early childhoods are more stable.

They also value intelligence and learning throughout the entire society. Same goes for the scandinavian countries.

The United States is diverse. Finland is not. If something is working well in Finland, it's worth considering how much homogeneity plays into that.

In Finland teachers are the most trusted and admired professionals next to doctors

Look at countries like Singapore and you'll find the same high level of respect for teachers. They want their best students to become future teachers too.

At my alma mater here in the USA, students often made comments like, "Those who can't do... teach." A degree in education was also considered a joke.

Finland has been through Real ShitTM in the form of Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, up close and personal.

Here in the U.S.A. most of our wounds are self-inflicted.

Look at any anti-intellectual Obama-hating Trump supporter (all one and the same...) They don't realize it's their own ignorance and fear that's making this nation suck. They don't even want good schools, fearful that a little knowledge would turn their children against them, or worse, make the non-white people they hate more powerful.
