What World Do the Freepers Live In?

I ventured over to the freerepublic this evening because I am an idiot. Most of them are saying things along the lines of "Clinton has spent tens of millions on ads and she can't even pull even with Trump in the polls" and "The polls show the race is tied, just wait until Trump finally goes after Clinton". We can also try to dissect posts about the "tens of millions of democrats backing trump" and the large number of "the Blacks" that support Trump but I digress.

Of course I can write a series of textbooks about why none of that is true but of course I won't bother. Perhaps I am trying to make sense out of pure chaos but I still have to ask, what world are these people living in exactly?

Now I see "she can't pull ahead in the polls" and think "hmmmm" and then just walk away. Its sad in a way, just giving up on an entire segment of the population, trying your best to ignore them. The agitation just isn't worth it and I dare say they are getting worse as the years pass, not better.

I was in a boring meeting the day before the election, playing on my laptop, and I was reading posts about Romney winning by at least 15 points, some predicting 20-25 points. After 4 years, I still don't know if I should feel sorry for them or think "haha, look at these braindead hicks".

First, Megyn Kelly's high heels were extremely high and she needed assistance stepping off the newsroom set. That was funny. Then she had difficulty walking in them.

Second, the whole conceit was fake. Walking down the hall to some inner sanctum to get the inside information just looked like a stupid stunt. Couldn't the two analysts have come into the studio? How did it give more credence to their report? Probably Roger Ailes just wanted to watch Ms. Kelly sashay in the stilettos.

More importantly, she spilled the beans that night when she voiced an aside that they had rehearsed the whole thing earlier in the day.

I've always believed that Karl Rove thought they had rigged the Ohio voting in Mitt Romney's favor and that's why he couldn't believe that President Obama won the state. That's why he had his famous meltdown.

she said Trump isn't really down in the polls, that the only correct polls are the online polls which show Trump way ahead (and even that isn't true). So they're just grasping at the propaganda. They'll be more surprised after this election than they were when Romney lost.

Talking to a relative who is intelligent, but mentally lazy. Still thinks there is a possibility that Hillary might get indicted (altho for what he's not sure), thinks that where there is smoke, there must be fire (doesn't occur to him that there may just be smoke bombs) and thinks the Clinton Foundation is dirty (but can't tell you what they do). He reads the headlines and listens to Republican chatter, doesn't go deep on anything and is sure BOTH candidates are "corrupt" so is considering not voting at all. Doesn't trust polls because people lie altho he does see that aggregations of polls are more likely to be true (his scientific knowledge tops out at about 6th grade and his math skills don't extent to statistics). His understanding of other races is minimal (of course he's white! and over 60...)

It's a world of the incurious, an echo-chamber of "folks like me" that willfully refuses to educate themselves on the issues outside their own protion of the world. Some nice people live there, but excuse me if I hope they don't actually vote in major elections.

Some of them are nice people, they are just really bad at analyzing these elections. There are a lot of skills that go into it. We don't have classes on how to analyze the media and how to make voting decisions that are in your own best interest in k - 12 schools so I can see why people suck at these sort of decisions. I think classes like this would help, but we'd have to be careful how to do it. Politics is like religion for a lot of people and they what to indoctrinate their kids on who to vote for just like they want them to believe in the same religion as them (they all want mini-mes). Parents won't like any class that they think might help sway their kid from their team. Seems college would be the only place such a class could exist because what the parents think no longer matters. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't go to college.

I saw it with the Bernie supporters too. You think if you keep saying things are as you want them to be, they will turn that way. It might come from all of the career-oriented positivity training in the 80s. It works on yourself perhaps, telling yourself you can do it over and over might help. But not so much on outside reality.

It stems from being told (and believing) their whole lives things like a 500 year old man spent years building a boat big enough to then wrangle two of every living creature in the world into said boat.

Now they've been told everyday since the 1990's on radio, "news", in their social groups, and in their churches which told them the BS about the 600 year old dude's boat that Hillary is evil and that she must be beaten, else she'll take all of the guns away so that a godless UN force will carry them away to some internment camp.

If you believe stupid shit your entire life, you will fall for stupid shit your entire life.

It is setting up (or being set up) to be a narrative about "how the Democrats stole the election".

That's they're completely unable to understand just how stupid and hateful they actually are.

The entire right wing is that way. And it's not just demonstrated on FR, but every single other so-called "conservative" forum as well on the internet. We're talking about utter cesspools of racism, misogyny, hatred and stupidity that are full of trolls and whose lives are nothing more than shamelessly pathetic.

They're completely proud and feel completely justified to be so stupid and hateful. They all get on the net to show that shit off. Spewing slurs about minorities and women, showing off how little they know about anything at all, crying foul whenever they see President Obama do anything at all. Of course, they'll go into overtime trying to smear the soon-to-be President Hillary Clinton.

The next four years for them will definitely be a living hell. That puts a smile on my face.

The thing that you have to consider is their real purpose: They're bad examples. There's nothing redeeming about people like that at all. If you get them pissed off, them you must be doing something right. As far as anyone with any decency and common sense is concerned, it's simply an utter waste of time caring about those useless assholes and what they think, because they don't actually think at all.

Unlike your visit to FR, I stay away from their shitty forums and whenever I come across them in the other places where I normally visit, I ply my considerable skills at calling their bullshit out. My suggestion there is to have fun. Because, if you refuse to allow those freaks to make you as miserable as they are, then they're going to lose. Never forget that.

So, don't worry about going to them, there's enough on the net to where they'll come to you. And when they do, just kick their asses with a smile on your face. Don't ever give them the satisfaction of tearing you down. You don't need that, especially from a bunch of useless miscreants on the internet.

Wow. It's denial at a massive level. The state poll in VA was discussed in a hilarious thread. They think they are winning VA with a poll showing they are down 16. The standard response you see in every thread about polls is, "well I would bet that poll's sample is Dem +16" No one even bothers to point out that there are more Dems than Reps in this country so that doesn't matter. No one bothers to point out how random sampling works. And no one bothers to point out the error in their math even if points 1 and 2 didn't exist. Say if it was a provable fact that there are exactly the same number of Dems as Reps everywhere, a Dem oversampling by 16 points still would translate to a 16 point lead, they simply don't understand proportions.

There are zero real polls showing Trump tied. Even LA Times has him down 2 today. And the state polls are devastating to him. He is down double digits in states that he has to win to get to 270.

I try to think about DU and how we'd all be reacting to Hillary being down to dramatically. It would be pretty depressing here, but it would no doubt be pretty sober as far as accepting reality. I learned my lesson in 04', I was left hoping that Kerry would outperform the polls that all showed him down 1-3 points. While I still think Ohio was stolen, the results came in right with the polls. You think they would have learned with the Unskewed Romney fiasco. He was down 3-5 in the polls and he lost by 5 and they were completely stunned. Rather than learning their lesson they are doubling down and multiplying by 3. Trump is way way down in the polls and it's worse in the state polls. They are in for a painful election day unless they start accepting reality.

Believing in only what they want to hear. And then confirming that belief amongst like minded peers.

For example, when Obama was running against McCain, I quipped to a relative that he would probably win. She responded " I don't know of anyone voting for Obama". My response "And you live where?" (she lived a in a very red area). She then had a kind of epitome that her views may be a bit too grounded in red country.

But that's more or less in a nut shell. They rely on their fears, bigotry, hatred, etc. and convince themselves its probably a fact. So they validate it against others who share the same fears, bigotry, hatred, etc. Numbers be damned, because they don't know of anyone who fits the numbers.
