McMullin Hears Trump ‘Hides In His Apartment’

August 24, 2016

Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin told Business Insider Donald Trump’s campaign staffers have told him that the GOP nominee has times where he “hides in his apartment” and they’re growing “frustrated.”

McMullin also said that it’s “unclear” whether Trump “will make it through this campaign.”

He continued: “I’m hearing from people inside his campaign that there are times now when he hides in his apartment and doesn’t meet with any people. When he campaigns he goes out to a place he has to fly back home to New York. This is a fragile man and a fragile campaign and I’m not quite sure what’s going to happen in the days and weeks ahead of him. I’m not sure the RNC can continue to support him given his weakness as a man and as a politician and as a candidate for the presidency.”

can you imagine if somebody said that she was hiding in her apartment?

that would be another WEEK of stories on her unhealthiness.

the way the media have turned on a dime the last two weeks would be stunning, if one was unaware of the way this happened during the swiftboating of kerry

and let the media do what it's doing now (going full Fools for Scandal mode on Hillary, which is their default position), he might actually win

he's so clearly his own worst enemy (his only one, actually, since the media lightly taps on only his most egregious faults, while IGNORING everything else)

contrast the constant feeding frenzy on the foundation with the COMPLETE ignoring of the new book on Trump, featuring TWENTY HOURs of interviews with the orange dunce

OK, I saw them twice yesterday, for a couple of minutes, with zero followup discussion, and NO times today, since about 4PM.

what happened to THEM?

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/washington-post-trump-book-best-parts-227259

A passage that hints at Trump’s likely style if he were to move into the Oval Office: “At Trump Tower, he kept no computer on his desk, and he avoided reading extensive reports or briefings. He preferred to be told about issues orally, and quickly.

“One day in June, he had a visit from a delegation of prominent executives from the oil, steel, and retail industries, and one of the CEOs told Trump that the Chinese were taking advantage of the United States. ‘He said, “I’d like to send you a report,”' Trump recalled [in a June interview with the authors]. ... 'I said, "Do me a favor, don’t send me a report. Send me, like, three pages." ... I’m a very efficient guy. I want it short.’” (p. 346-7)

like your vulgar fingers?

Perhaps the juiciest nugget, from an April interview with the authors: “He had no time to read, he said. As the reality of the nomination had become clear, he’d thought about digging into a biography of a president – he hadn’t had a chance to read one – ‘but I don’t have much time.’” (p. 347)

--“Trump never sounded angry in the [Washington Post editorial board] meeting [in March]. ... The editors who wanted more than anything else to figure out how much of Trump’s campaign manner was shtick and how much was real venom emerged thinking that they had seen the genuine Trump – a man certain of his views, hugely confident in his abilities, not terribly well informed, quick to take offense.” (p. 11)

No wait... That was Richard Nixon. Who was by comparison the very model of mental health.

24. Your criticism is based on a false premise

You refer to the paper as "a purported scientific study" with the clear insinuation that the authors made false representations about their work. Your insinuation is itself what's false. As I noted in my post, the responses on DU resolutely avoided the substance and instead launched ad hominem attacks on the authors based on how other people (headline writers and social media commenters, apparently) had characterized their work.

If you go to the Snopes "debunking" that was so lauded by Clinton supporters here, you'll find it begins with the following summary:

WHAT'S TRUE: Two researchers (presumably graduate students) from Stanford University and Tilburg University co-authored a paper asserting they uncovered information suggesting widespread primary election fraud favoring Hillary Clinton had occurred across multiple states.

WHAT'S FALSE: The paper was not a "Stanford Study," and its authors acknowledged their claims and research methodology had not been subject to any form of peer review or academic scrutiny. {emphasis added}

Take the trouble to read Snopes's more detailed analysis and you'll find that Snopes included this verbatim quotation from the authors:

Statement on peer-review: We note that this article has not been officially peer-reviewed in a scientific journal yet. Doing so will take us several months. As such, given the timeliness of the topic, we decided to publish on the Bern Report after we received preliminary positive feedback from two professors (both experts in the quantitative social sciences). We plan on seeking peer-reviewed publication at a later time. As of now, we know there may be errors in some numbers (one has been identified and sent to us: it was a mislabeling). We encourage anyone to let us know if they find any other error. Our aim here truly is to understand the patterns of results, and to inspire others to engage with the electoral system.

Note that the authors referred to their work as an "article" rather than a "scientific study". Furthermore, they did not present their work as a "Stanford study" or otherwise imply that it had the imprimatur of the university. They merely noted that one of the two co-authors was a doctoral candidate at Stanford.

In sum, your post uses the loaded word "purported" in a way that is not justified by the facts.
