These candidates will have no connection to political parties but to insurance corp, liability lawyers, software corp, and transportation specialist, and car/truck manufactures.
I assumed you figured it out, autonomous or semi-autonomus vehicles.
Every law on the books pertaining to autos and insurance will need to be replaced both at the state and federal level.
This will bring in a whole new source of money, lobbyist and the buying and selling of legislatures.

(2,413 posts)Do you think the autonomous vehicles will be the single thing anyone cares about two or four years from now? Or even the main thing? Yes, they will be in the public consciousness, but won't rise to anything resembling that level of importance.
Further, are you predicting that there will be a huge number of completely unaffiliated candidates, connected to no political party? And that most of them will be savvy enough to figure out just how, in their jurisdiction, they'll get on the ballot?
Political parties will still dominate, of that I'm certain. It's slightly possible that the Republican party will be greatly reduced in importance, maybe even fade to irrelevance, and that either a completely new one will replace it, or that the Green or Libertarian Party will step into the void.
But lots of new candidates with no affiliation at all? I doubt it. All those you've mentioned will happily work with current parties.

(10,005 posts)Michigan moves to lead driverless car testing
Melissa Burden, Michael Wayland and Michael Martinez, The Detroit News 10:40 p.m. EDT May 25, 2016
Sweeping legislation was introduced Wednesday in the state Senate that aims to make Michigan the nations leader in autonomous vehicle testing by allowing manufacturers to produce and sell self-driving cars here and clearing the way for their use on state roadways.

Things are going to start moving very quickly. Much more quickly than I thought it appears.
Smart of Michigan. That will attract a huge amount of investment dollars assuming they are first and remain so for a reasonable period.

Every citizen on the streets caring about autos or insurance will need to hide both at the state and federal level.
Laughing pro-driver-less car lobbyists will knock Popsicles out of children's hands and leave deep unrepairable ruts in playgrounds and ball fields.

The political parties will be overcome with money and a total army of new lobbyist.
I suggest you run down to your state capitol and register as a lobbyist so that you can get a job when gets going.

I do like the idea of 50 driver-less Capital Buildings terrorizing our highways. Maybe I should buy one of these:

(21,506 posts)Yes Uber is bleeding money right now but they are giving away 2/3 of the money they take in to drivers. That hole will fill very quickly when they can eliminate the drivers. In the meantime they are building infrastructure to handle the demand.
Laughing at UBer because they are currently not showing a profit is very short sighted IMHO.
