My problems getting the art to put up in my art essays might be related to a change in policy because Google is worried about copyright issues.
Does anyone know if this is Google's concern?

(63,912 posts)The process I have always used before is not letting me save the image in My Pictures, which I save for posting in an art essay. My computer guy wonders if Google is the reason I can't save them.

(503 posts)then using Copy Image and pasting onto a blank file in Photoshop. I saved some to Pictures, I think. I saved a bunch of Mucha prints to Pictures for transfer onto polymer clay earrings a few months ago and didn't have any problems.
If you can't save could the problem be your OS? I find strange things happen between updates of Windows 10.

(63,912 posts)I haven't used it in years but I just logged on and it looks good.
Is another reliable photohosting site. If your problem persists you could get an account their and then upload and save collections of URLs to separate folders there. Then download the folder/album to My Pictures.
Might be worth a test for a few pictures to see how it works for you.

(63,912 posts)up to the completed essay I then post to DU. My images are in My Pictures file in separate folders with the title of each essay.Using tinypic.com is the final step in the process. My pic is somehow linked to tinypic since it automatically goes to My Documents when I start out the process.

(16,296 posts)Yes, you have to pay for it ($29 - I believe) - I got too frustrated with some of the free screen capture stuff and sprung for Photopad and does a good job with min. of fuss and fuming . It has some extra bells and whistles for cropping, editing, layout, etc.. You then save the image to your computer as JPEG or whatever and then , if reposting I go to Photobucket.

(63,912 posts)Now that I'm established at tinypic, I'll stay with it. But Photopad might be the way to go to get the image.

(101,321 posts)Is there a Google Artworks site? or are you just trying to save images from the results page of a Google Images search, without visiting the sites themselves?
Or is it that you use Google Chrome as your browser, and something seems to have changed?
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)I'm just trying to save the art images on my pc.
Sometimes I do visit the site where the image is from because I get valuable art history information when I do. When I visit the site I copy the art image from there.

(101,321 posts)I'm not surprised if Google has decided to try and stop copying from there. It would rather defeat the point of copyright.

And yet you think this is a problem with Google? Maybe contact the artists and offer to pay them for their work. Or draw it yourself. You know, for the exposure. Exposure tastes great with a nice Chianti and some fava beans.

(503 posts)Fortunately I've only worn the earrings and haven't sold any yet. Poor Alphonse must be flipping in his crypt. His art is all over the Internet and in the Public Domain!

(31,464 posts)Of course I'm not talking about old masters pieces, or 150 year old artwork. If that is what you're looking for, Google can't claim there is a copyright issue, as these works have long since fallen into the public domain. Copyright doesn't apply anymore. So, there must be something else. You're either looking for newer works, or Google is just scamming you.

Guy paints a few pretty pictures, gets all high and mighty, so impressed with himself. He owes me five bucks since like, forever too.

(503 posts)I'd say the artists weren't too concerned about copyright on account of being dead. It would be difficult to pay them for the use of their work when that's the case.

(31,464 posts)How, exactly, was I supposed to know any of that based upon the OP? Obviously, it wasn't until well into the thread that it became apparent that the discussion was about hundreds year old classic artworks, not contemporary illustrations from current sites. Not an unusual occurrence with Internet posts, wherein the OP and his/her friends assume everybody else is supposed to know exactly what they're talking about.
High horse? Really? I'll meet you at the hitching post.

(63,912 posts)goals in life: to share my love of art to others. I get no money for this. The art has already enriched me just by being there. Just about everything I use is also in the public domain.
You don't have to read my essays and clearly you don't. That's fine. You might say I teach, just without a salary.

(31,464 posts)We're neighbors, CTyankee. I am not (or was not) familiar with your essays. i approached it as the victim of people regularly linking to my artwork for free, not from the historical perspective of what you are posting. Where is the link to the essays?
Again, to you (and all of the "high horse" people that think I was being nasty), my most sincere apologiy. All of these years I've known CTyankee on DU, and I never known about the art essays. I consider myself enlightened, and I thank you.
Peace!

(63,912 posts)There is no one link to the essays. But I am hoping to post one this Friday. It is on Bernini's "Ecstasy of St. Teresa." I do them in GD usually around 5 pm EDT.
tell me about your artwork. What do you work in? Do you have pics of your work you could share here?
I am working on another essay on James Whistler, more narrowly on his beautiful ladies work. I hope to tackle Degas' dancers (thanks to inspiration from a dear friend) soon also.
I have to hope there is an easily fixed solution to this problem. Computer guy coming today to help!
