Pixcontroller set up a new cam by a stream and there are critters there but are hard to see, their eyes glow and you can see their shape but it's hard to make a positive identification.

(3,014 posts)But my wildlife biologist hubby and I (a veterinarian) think they are kind of shaped like raccoons. They are also in a cluster like raccoons tend to do; when I have seen mink they were solo. Since they are by the river, possibly river otters but I don't know if they are in that part of the country as I never saw one when I lived in central NYS.
ETA - I can see stripes on a tail. Look mostly like raccoons.

(8,013 posts)I think a mink looks similar to a ferret. Short legs, long body. I love seeing what goes on at night without people present.

(7,037 posts)They have big asses. You can really tell when the one stands on its hind legs and looks to the left.
Mink are more solitary hunters. It's a kind of weasel. Skunks and badgers are similar and they all have musk glands, if I'm not mistaken.

(7,939 posts)Pixcontroller said that Minks might show up at the cam, so I jumped to the conclusion that the first critter I saw was a Mink.

(8,389 posts)We live lakefront, and they skitter across the rip-rap. I haven't seen them in a few months, but my friend around the corner in a cove sees them frequently.
