(5,624 posts)Thank you ladies for sharing this with the nation. I also never heard of the immigrants sent back on trains and the large number of deaths. I will be doing some googling later.

(5,624 posts)It had to do with Mexico isn't the same now, very dangerous, and if we don't stop them from coming in then we'll have taco trucks on every corner..................

(675 posts)Sorry for the quality. He says:
"Our culture is a very dominant culture. And it's imposing(?) and it's causing problems. If you don't do something about it you're gonna have taco trucks (on) every corner."

(46,166 posts)if i recall this right, he said that the hispanic culture is a dominant culture. then he went into the "taco stands on every corner" thought.
what he had to say leaves so many questions to be asked and answered. i hope he returns as a guest very soon so his point of view can be explored. i sure don't get him at all. it felt like he came out of left field. but he's surely not alone.
still shaking my head.

(4,238 posts)"Yay, taco trucks on every corner!"
I couldn't believe he said that, how sad to have that level of self-loathing.

(5,624 posts)Uncle Ruckus (also known as Rev. Uncle Ruckus, Rev. Fr. Uncle Ruckus, and Uncle Ruckus, no relation) is the main antagonist from the comic strip The Boondocks and the television series based on the comic.[1]
An old angry man who claims to have had a disease that started when he was a baby turning his skin color from white to black, he disassociates himself from other African Americans as much as possible as a result of this excuse, and is outspoken in his support of what Huey calls the "white supremacist power structure."

(7 posts)Gutierrez, with his "taco trucks on every corner" comment, seems to be referring to this same idea... He doesn't want too many brown people in the country (maybe he owns a bunch of taco trucks, and wants to limit competition through legislation - that's very Republican!):
Trump specifically mentioned going back to pre-1965 immigration laws -- another racist "dog whistle", because that would restore the "National Origins Formula" limiting immigration from "non-white" countries.

(7 posts)From Trump's speech - his 10th point:
"Number 10: We will reform legal immigration to serve the best interests of America and its workers
Weve admitted 59 million immigrants to the United States between 1965 and 2015.
Many of these arrivals have greatly enriched our country. But we now have an obligation to them, and to their children, to control future immigration as we have following previous immigration waves to ensure assimilation, integration and upward mobility.
Within just a few years immigration as a share of national population is set to break all historical records.
The time has come for a new immigration commission to develop a new set of reforms to our legal immigration system in order to achieve the following goals:
· To keep immigration levels, measured by population share, within historical norms
· To select immigrants based on their likelihood of success in U.S. society, and their ability to be financially self-sufficient. We need a system that serves our needs remember, its America First.
· To choose immigrants based on merit, skill and proficiency
· And to establish new immigration controls to boost wages and to ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first.
We want people to come into our country, but they have to come in legally and properly-vetted, and in a manner that serves the national interest.
Weve been living under outdated immigration rules from decades ago. To avoid this happening in the future, I believe we should sunset our visa laws so that Congress is forced to periodically revise and revisit them. We wouldnt put our entire federal budget on autopilot for decades, so why should we do the same for immigration?"
That year, 1965, is significant:

(7 posts)I'm re-watching last night's "All In" right now, and noticed that, right after making the "taco trucks on every corner" comment, Gutierrez specifically references the "10th Step" of Trump's "plan", complaining that his comment pertains to it, but they weren't addressing the earlier steps of the plan. This is also clearly evident in the video clip posted above by Hyper_Eye.
