Montana: Man dies, son injured in Glacier Park fall
WEST GLACIER, MONTANA A man died and his adult son was injured when the two slipped and fell while descending the east face of Mount Jackson in Glacier National Park.
Park officials say the 27-year-old son, who was able to stop his fall on a snowfield, could not find his father. He hiked back to Gunsight Campground, where he reported the accident just after 11 p.m. Tuesday. He was treated for minor injuries at the hospital in Whitefish.
Park Rangers worked with rescue helicopters to locate the mans body on Wednesday and a technical rescue team helped recover it on Thursday. Glacier spokesman Tim Raines did not release the mans name, age or where he was from.
Jackson Peak is one of the tallest peaks in Glacier National Park at just over 10,000 feet.
