DETROIT - Rick Wershes fight for freedom is about to get a worldwide audience in a documentary on the legend of "White Boy" Rick.
Shooting for the documentary wrapped up this weekend, and in an exclusive interview with the Local 4 Defenders, the producer said new interviews claim that a prominent name in Detroit police and politics wanted Wershe killed.

People outside Detroit who don't know the story might be incredulous that the 14-year-old Wershe was paid by police to snitch on neighborhood drug dealers. At 16 years old, he started selling drugs, and at 17, he was busted and sent to prison. He's been in prison for 28 years, longer than any other nonviolent juvenile offender in Michigan history.

Craft went to prison for killing 30 people, but got out by cooperating with police to catch other criminals. Now, in the documentary "650 Lifer: The Legend of White Boy Rick," Transition Studios will air Craft's interview, revealing the name of the person who he said wanted him to kill Wershe.

In 1991, I served on a jury for a "650+" trial. The two defendants, allegedly "Chaldean Mafia" members, were found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

In this particular case, the evidence included 5 banana shipping boxes full of cocaine - 99 kilos! They even passed a baggie full of cocaine around the jury box for us to hold. Yes, the courtroom was more full of deputies and media than trial observers!
As I understand it, the defendants were eventually released after 650 equals life was repealed. This is a gang with bodies on them. Rick Wershe does not have any bodies on him. But he is still in.
Why?

Rick Wershe, better known as "White Boy Rick," is the longest serving juvenile drug offender in the history of Michigan.
At the age of 14, Detroit police were paying Wershe to rat-out neighborhood drug dealers. When Wershe was 17, someone he snitched on got suspicious and had him shot. Detroit police abandoned him. So he started selling drugs for real and in a year's time he was caught, convicted, and nicknamed "White Boy Rick." He was a juvenile convicted of possessing more than 650 grams of cocaine in 1988. His sentence was life in prison.

(3 posts)I've known Rick Wershe all my life. Yes, he made a lot of mistakes as a kid but one of his biggest was cooperating with the authorities.

(22,165 posts)I have been aware of him since my late teens early 20s....I do not understand this at all. I am not inclined to believe in conspiracy theories but the conspiracies ring much truer that the official line in this case.
