Absolutely nuts.
#1714: Nico Haupt
Nico Haupt is a remarkably crazy 9/11 truther and something of a central figure in the truther side show (though see below). It was apparently Haupt who coined the acronyms MIHOP (Made It Happen On Purpose) the idea being that 9/11 was planned and executed by the Bush administration (e.g. by planting explosives in the buildings and firing a cruise missile at the Pentagon building) and LIHOP (Let It Happen On Purpose), the idea that the Bush administration knew about the attacks beforehand but let them happen to garner support for the War on Terror. Haupt himself is of course a MIHOPer. In fact, he is not only a MIHOPER but a no-planer, one of those who claim that no planes hit the buildings at all but that holographic images were projected into the to make them appear like planes 9/11 TV fakery is Haupts preferred label.
The only people who can really be bothered to actually argue against the no-planer contingent seem to be other truthers who at least realize that the no-planers tend to undermine whatever little credibility the truther movement could conceivably have enjoyed among people who are not delusionally insane. And Haupts delusional paranoia, combined with his belligerence, has made him rather unpopular with other truthers (though he has a fan base as well). Indeed, Haupt has entirely predictably been accused of being an agent for a COINTELPRO operation. And Haupt has, equally predictably, been accusing the other 9/11 conspiracy theorists (planehuggers) of conspiring against him. And so it goes.

(7,981 posts)The term "conspiracy theorist", perhaps the most misapplied description in our vernacular, is often used to describe 9/11 truthers. Perhaps that term does apply to a segment of the 9/11 truth movement. But in most cases a more accurate description of 9/11 truthers is probably "expert", or "scholar", or "researcher." You see, much of the doubt cast on the official narrative of the events of 9/11 has not come in the form of speculated accusations, or "theories." In fact, it has come in the form of questions that have been raised after a careful study of the official and undisputed events and details.
Ten years have passed since the infamous events of September 11th, 2001 took place, and the majority of people still don't know a damn thing about the actual details of that event. They don't know what was going on in the country with regard to our military that day. They don't know the history or the activities of key members of our government, defense establishment or intelligence community, on, or during the weeks, and in some cases the years leading up to that day. They don't know what took place during or immediately following the events of that day. And they don't know what actions were taken by those key people following that event.
As is the case with so many issues, people tend to stand strong and argue a position or voice an opinion about an event like 9/11. But, when questioned about the many details surrounding that event they have no answers. They are clueless. And they are, in the end, dumbfounded.

You're asking me to do some critical thinking and research a subject that will only upset me more and more the further I look into it? No thanks. Willful ignorance is much more blissful.
Truthers must be kooks. The alternative is too upsetting to contemplate.

(13,452 posts)If there was an illegal conspiracy to let it happen or make it happen, a good defense to avoid being caught and prosecuted would be to put out a bunch of extra conspiracy theories -- some crazy and some plausible. And of course, all the while to degrade any theorizing of any conspiracy, flaunting the conspiracies made especially for the purpose of sounding crazy to prove ones own point to the half-way attentive.
Think tanks are great at this.
MIHOP did not mean that the Bush administration planned the type of attack, flew the planes, remotely flew planes, planted explosives, on and on: all or any of these. It meant that Bush administration would (1) tell Afghanistan to expect a "carpet of gold, or a carpet of bombs," for example, or (2) reward top FBI people who stopped investigation a computer that was found, or, (3) disband daily security meetings, or (4) ignore dire presidential security briefs (4) ignore warnings from France, and, or, oh, there are more facts.
That kind of stuff.
No planers, planted explosives, ... are smoke that could hide a real conspiracy.

(65,044 posts). . .were the result of hubris and incompetence. The result would be the same, wouldn't it? And no conspiracy is needed, right?
You don't consider hubris and incompetence attributes of that administration?

(13,452 posts)The dolt is guilty of actions. The smart one, is really the guilty one. I can feel sorry for the dolt's hubris and incompetence.
So, which one made it happen?
Let it, Made it, Helped it, can all mean the same thing, I suppose.

(3,569 posts)I am insulted by the OP.there are many here who do not believe the official story, and this is insulting to them (me). I could be considered a "truther". I have my own theories, and to be labeled as crazy is not only a group characterization but also an insult to many here on DU.
Just think if I had posted "9-11 non truthers are crazy".

(3,569 posts)And if I cannot post anything about 9-11 here, that could be considered a conspiracy theory (and that includes anything at all here on DU) then certainly a post or thread disparaging people that do not believe the official story (truthers by definition) should be taken down. It is insulting to everyone that doesn't believe the official story.

(8,146 posts)fact. Can anyone believe JFK (or Robbie, for that matter) was done in by someone who had no reason to doit, and could in no way benefit from it (Oswald was prolly a ONI agent, ie the navy CIA) yet went to immense lengths, even scoring himself a min wage job in texas a few days prior JFK visit- Lee Oswald, a GI who knew nothing else since joining up at 17? And FDR- could the fascist have nuked Japan, demonized USSR and terrorised the amercan folk had FDR not been poisoned (Stalin said to his henchmen that "it's over, we're done for for, the fascistss too well organized' when he learned FDR was killed)...Archae, you're a old hand here at DU....and if you're right about the punks who staged 911 (they were innocent!!) then good, but lookit what has been done! We're a doomed species living on a dying planet, and the goofs can destroy society with one nuke device (it shut down all electronics motors etc) literally hundreds of millions of humanity will die, and it to late to say ' we shoulda stopped the fascasts before they got so loony!"
Let's just say I hope you're right (about the truth) cuz we being wrong is going to spell disaster for the future
