According to new data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the rate of uninsured Americans has dropped to yet another historic low, falling below nine percent for the first time since they began tracking the figure. From the CDCs National Health Interview Survey:
In the first 3 months of 2016, 27.3 million (8.6%) persons of all ages were uninsured at the time of interview1.3 million fewer persons than in 2015 and 21.3 million fewer persons than in 2010.

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, was signed into law in 2010, and went into full effect in 2013 after experiencing massive technical issues in the initial enrollment phase. Even prior to the opening of the health insurance exchanges, however, there were provisions of the Affordable Care Act that gave people access to health insurance that they otherwise would not have had.
The CDC report also showed a dramatic increase in the percentage of Americans enrolled in High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) since the signing of the Affordable Care Act, which demonstrates the need for further efforts to control the cost of health care.
