Entertainment is the loss leader. It's only value is the eyes it can attract and hold.

There was a lot of conversation that the 2016 Rio Olympics was programmed by the Entertainment Division. Sports had input but Entertainment was the last vote. It showed up in the higher percentage of prime time being devoted to profiles vs. actual sporting events and how poor coverage was on any sport not dominated by the US.
I think they've turned the election over to the Entertainment Division. The News Division (if it even still exists at NBC) is just there for input. Last night was an "event"...all day wind up on the ship, around town...it all reeked of reality TV.
IMHO.

They have to keep you entertained between sales pitches.

(1,687 posts)9. Now that Matt....
Now that Matt has brought it up, you may remember in 1989 when the Ayatollah Khomeini died his followers at his funeral were so agitated that the coffin was over turned and his body rolled out to reveal that Ayatollah Khomeini was wearing bright red boxers with the words, "Home Of The Whopper" written across the front.
