(15,429 posts)My wife used to get pneumonia every year until a doctor finally looked at silent GRD (Gastric Reflux Disease). Strong antibiotics and she was solid in a week.

(15,429 posts)After we finally found a doctor who looked at silent GERD, found she had it without the pain and prescribed over the counter Prilosec, she has not had an incident since.
She would get it after allergies, then a sinus infection followed up by pneumonia. What actually happened was, when the allergies hit she would get GERD which resulted in acid into the esophagus and sinuses resulting in a sinus infection and pneumonia.

(28,079 posts)several coworkers (most quite a bit younger than me or Hillary) and a couple friends got (if pneumonia can "go around" it was just weird how many people had it within a short period of time and in the summer no less.)
It seemed to take every one at least a couple weeks and at least 2 round of antibiotics to get over it. Then a couple more weeks for the energy level to return to normal. No one has seemed to have relapse since.
I wouldn't be surprised or alarmed if this drags on for more than a few days But the timing sure sucks. Let's hope her doctors pick the right antibiotic the first time.

(2,895 posts)She had SO been looking forward to seeing HRC tomorrow at the fundraiser/concert in San Francisco. (We gave her the ticket for her birthday.) My daughter works every weekday doing data entry at the local campaign office, and the excitement had been building. Earlier, she attended primary events featuring Sanders and Bill Clinton, but missed Hillary.
I've only had pneumonia once-- the year I turned forty-- and it should be taken seriously, but it certainly didn't disqualify me from being president. (A million other things have thoroughly disqualified me, but not that!)
Hope HRC gets better ASAP... and I'm sure she will be back in SF in the not-too-distant future, maybe after she's safely elected!

(2,895 posts)so more vulnerable to respiratory issues, anyway... but she also had lymphoma a couple of years ago, and that involved a tumor pressing on her esophagus and lung (with several months of constant coughing before the cancer was diagnosed), so her lung capacity was even more compromised by that experience (she's doing great now, though!), and we don't want to take any chances.

(77,097 posts)Still not recovered yet. Fever chills etc. Arm swelled up like a cantaloupe. Still red patch and a popeye muscle.

(2,895 posts)I know it was recommended, but we were dealing with a lot of other issues from her time in the hospital (like healing a stage 4 pressure ulcer), so it may have slipped though the cracks. Good to be warned of the possible side effects! (And hope you will be over them soon!)
