These fishermen say Obama’s new ocean preserve will leave them high and dry

VICE

Published on Sep 15, 2016
On Thursday President Obama declared the first Marine National Monument in the Atlantic Ocean. This decision followed the discovery of an array of untouched coral reefs 150 miles off the coast of New England in 2014.

While conservationists are hailing the decision as a victory, not everyone is happy with the new monument. VICE News recently traveled to New Bedford, Massachusetts – home to the most profitable fishing port in the US, and the fishermen who will be most impacted by this decision – to find out more.
