Democratic primary winner in New York state Senate race says she'll join group that supports GOP

Democratic primary winner in New York state Senate race says she'll join group that supports GOP
Sep 15, 2016 12:33pm

Democrats' chances of reclaiming New York's state Senate suffered a major setback on Tuesday night, and for the most revolting reason possible: A supposed "progressive" who won a primary for an open seat on Manhattan's West Side has promised to join a group of renegade Democrats who side with the Republicans and keep the GOP in power even though it holds a minority of seats in the chamber. Since this district is safely blue, Marisol Alcantara, a union organizer and—if you can believe it—a vocal Bernie Sanders supporter, will become the sixth conspirator in this traitorous junta, known as the Independent Democratic Conference.

And make no mistake about it: The IDC exists solely to further the power of its members. Its leader, Jeff Klein, struck a dirty bargain with the GOP years ago, becoming "Co-Leader and President Pro Tempore" alongside Republican Dean Skelos.
(Skelos has since been sentenced to five years in prison for corruption.) From that perch, while earning perks for himself—such as a custom-gerrymandered home district—Klein and the IDC have helped Republicans stymie boatloads of progressive priorities.

THIS IS Why the Democrats with long solid Party ties must be always elected & re-elected.

Proof that "Progressive" has become a very useful term in 2016.

I don't know enough really to make a decision but looking at this https://www.nysenate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/david-j-valesky/independent-democratic-conference-launches-2015-policy

I have zero problem with any of the stated goals.

Raising the Minimum Wage

Agricultural Resurgency Program

Student Loan Debt Relief and Prepaid College Tuition

Creating an Education Investment Tax Credit (EITC) for Public and Private Schools

School Construction Trust Fund

There's more but none of those sound like republican programs to me.

Disgusts me that she rode the Progressive momentum of Sanders while running on the Dem ticket only to announce her alignment with the GOP group led by a convicted GOP criminal, who's Group was put in place to VOTE AGAINST PROGRESSIVE POLICIES, now that she is elected.

Traitor.

Not exactly the AP. Again I don't really know anything about the group but the goals they say they are working for don't look republican to me at all in fact quite the opposite. I am not convinced she hid her association with the IDC either.

Could be but just a cursory look into it doesn't seem to jive with that DKOS post at all.
