The Republican Party has an empty bench, and couldn't field a POTUS candidate this year.

So Not Really Republican, Just Mean, Rich and Orange stepped in to fill the vacuum. And he has no motivation to behave properly as as a person hoping to occupy the Presidential seat. Not a clue how to do that anyway.

Months went by as the GOP failed to muster anyone with enough personality to kick Trump off the ticket. Unfortunately all Leadership Republicans are vile, syphilitic and probably psychotic, so only fellow psychotics can get behind these worthless lunatics at the polls. It works okay in White Sheet states, but surprisingly and sadly for the Southern Strategy, that is a smallish proportion of the US electorate.

So Trump has remained, like a 5 year contract for catheter commercials. GOP is helpless to remove him, and they have a long tradition of never saying anything bad about their candidates. All they can do is sit back and watch the show and hope no one notices the show is bizarre, indecent and gloatingly evil, like Celebrity Apprentice. Nothing but staged lies, designed to get ratings from a certain demographic which Americans ought to be shunning due to its violence, racism and ignorance. Fat Chance. Pass the doritos and don't ask me where Europe is.

Never fear though. Republican Plan B is to boldly strut around, loudly proclaiming victory before the election has been held. Utter blind confidence that the numbers will come in for Karl Rove, like they strangely seem to do sometimes, due to lost satchels of uncounted votes found in swamps, Dem precincts given too few voting machines, voter purges and the like. And vicious. conniving attacks on the opponent so ancient and widespread that everyone believes it when Hillary looks worse somehow than the career criminals running the GOP. Is a procedural error in email use more serious than international bribery, slave labor and shady deals with foreign mob bosses?

Well OF COURSE, if the email server belongs to a Democrat, are you kidding? And the lap dogs in the media lap it up and wiggle their tails at their global oligarch bosses. Their jobs are safe, but fire all the fact-checkers. Like standup comedians (I'm looking at YOU Fallon) most of the press would love President Trump, for the laugh factor alone.

And if the crumbling structure of FoxNews is any indication, The Repubs won't be coming back with any fresh new reality shows any time soon. They pretend otherwise, but they have no candidates. The Party is gone. And a con-job pitchman has taken it over.

Fade Away, Republicans. You don't have a party anymore. A new, kinder, more progressive America is coming, and it's already bigger than you have been for generations. We just don't know it because the media want to smother it in the cradle. And they may very well succeed, as they have since the turn of the century.

Trump will not win, not this year, but can't shake the feeling we are just limping into the future with a broken USA sinking in the West.

strong candidates and serious financial backers don't like to go up against a very strong candidate.

for all the negative propaganda against her, hillary has always had a very strong likelihood of winning.

the koch brothers gave up a while ago and are only trying to keep us from winning the senate, too.

He ran against 16 qualified, professional, experienced Republicans and drew more votes in the primary than any other Republican in history.

And for the last 6 years these "Republicans" have taken Houses, Senates, and governorships from one coast to the other.

since FDR/Truman, every other president has been a Republican.

Except that time the actor was followed by a Bush.

in the polls. People here on DU have been claiming for months now that it is next to impossible for a Republican to
win the presidential election.

The zealots won't be voted out so the leadership had to placate them. Now there is no leadership.

I think the problem for the Repubs is, they have sold government as the problem for so long that they are all tainted by it in their voters eyes. That's why Trump could take their primary. They need to walk that 'Government is the source of all evil" meme back if they are going to run 'normal' corporate repubs.
