Mitt Romney left a note on the press bus today for reporters traveling with him on his five-day bus tour:

This pretty much sums up my reaction:

Romney inadvertently reminds the public of a scandal he had as Governor, when he had his staff erase or remove all traces of his office's computer activities. He's reminding everyone of how secretive he is.

"...But whether Romney realized it or not, the quip at the end of the note — “erased your hard drives” — provided an awkward reminder of a 2011 Boston Globe investigation revealing that before Romney left office as governor of Massachusetts in late 2006, “11 of his top aides purchased their state-issued computer hard drives, and the Romney administration’s e-mails were all wiped from a server.”

“Romney administration officials had the remaining computers in the governor’s office replaced just before Governor Deval Patrick’s staff showed up to take power in January 2007,” the Globe’s Michael Levenson and Matt Viser reported in a Nov. 2011 article. ..."

it should be.

He was a public employee. That means those emails -- and anything other records on those hard drives -- belonged to the people, not him. Same as emails and information owned by any corporation.

Fucking entitled criminal. He has no interest in government, other than how he can use it to benefit himself.

I agree with you, though. That was property of the Commonwealth, that INFORMATION, and no amount of "paying for the hard drives" can retrieve that information.

I'd love it if they found back-ups stuffed somewhere, at just the right time, too!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Mary_Woods
Fiercely loyal to Nixon, Woods claimed responsibility in a 1974 grand jury testimony for inadvertently erasing up to five minutes of the 181?2 minute gap in a June 20, 1972 audio tape. Her demonstration of how this might have occurred — which depended upon her stretching to simultaneously press controls several feet apart (what the press dubbed the "Rose Mary Stretch"[4]) -- was met with skepticism from those who believed the erasures, from whatever source, to be deliberate. The contents of the gap remain a mystery.[5]

Those two little sentences show him treating others as a social out-group, endorsing inequality, lacking empathy, and have overtones of self-absorption and sadism. I hope it's a hoax, because otherwise...

...Hey, was Mitt in San Francisco around 1969?

So let's see just how far down the rabbit hole we can go, using only Wikipedia and DU and random blogs.

Mitt Romney spent thirty months in France and then returned to the United States in December, 1968.

On December 20, 1968, the first murders attributed to the Zodiac occurred.

Mitt was busy in the first half of 1969, getting married and going to BYU. The Zodiac did not appear again until July 4, 1969, then again in September and October.

It's an eleven-hour straight shot from Salt Lake to San Francisco... unless one has flashing lights and a police officer's uniform.

DUer JackRabbitt recalls that in 1968, lawyer Melvin Belli was virtually the only American to point out that Mitt's father was born in Mexico and should not be eligible to run for President.

In October, 1969, the Zodiac demanded that Melvin Belli go on a radio show, which he did. They attempted to arrange a meeting which didn't happen, then the Zodiac mailed Belli a swatch of one of the victim's shirts.

The last verified letter from the Zodiac was in 1974. Look at the handwriting:

So there you have it. Case closed.

If I was a professional journalist the last thing I would have with me is something easily eraseable.

He's like a little boy who watches his dad and his friends give each other crap so he tries to imitate them without knowing how. The difference between a little boy doing it and Mitt doing it is that a grown man ought to either know how to do it or to not even try.
