Montana GOP enters fray over governor’s emails
The head of the state Republican Party said Monday he was sending a letter to the governor, admonishing him for deleting emails that were state property and asking him to end the practice.
Officials from Gov. Steve Bullocks staff denied the allegations, saying the emails had been disposed of properly.
Rep. Jeff Essmann, R-Billings, chairman of the Montana GOP, said the governor and his staff ignored records retention policies when they deleted emails from his term as attorney general.
I was dismayed to learn that you believe state law authorized you to destroy your state emails, Essmann wrote in his letter to the Democratic governor. As you know, your emails written as attorney general were state property, not personal property, as were the emails of your senior staff.
