Which network is carrying Monday night's debate?
I haven't seen any mention of it.

(12,157 posts)I went to titantv.com which doesn't show any listings for the debate on Monday. But was listening to my local CBS affiliate and they said we will be able to watch it right here on channel 3. My guess is that it will be covered by ABC,CBS,NBC and PBS. The later is our usual choice.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,627 posts)There's lots of info there.
I too hope PBS covers it. I prefer their coverage too.

(3,614 posts)I prefer to watch the debate without listening to what the television pundit commentators have to say.
At least for a day (or several hours).
I find that it helps me to make my own perceptions of what I have seen, before listening to any of the bloviating.
To achieve this, C-SPAN is my choice.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,627 posts)I may do that. I haven't decided yet. If PBS covers it, I'll watch them, as I do like their people.

(25,861 posts)and I'm honestly stunned and a bit appalled that all of the networks are carrying it. Really? Talk about group-think.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,627 posts)I see it as getting needed information out to the voters.
Of course, nobody has to watch--that is your right.
But for those of us who do want to, it's great that there are so many choices.
Choice is the issue, as I see it. Choice as to who to watch, and who to vote for.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,861 posts)Clearly there is a lot of room here for reasonable people to disagree. And yes, I have many alternate choices of entertainment that evening.
But it's reminding me a bit how the networks will go, en masse, to wall-to-wall coverage of such things as, oh, the death of Michael Jackson. A slow chase of a bronco. Various other things, I'm probably not fully aware of as I don't have a TV myself, and so fortunately miss out on these things.
People wonder why so many Americans are so ill-informed. It's not that they all watch Fox News, because they don't. But it is, at least in some part, because they mistakenly think that American news media covers important stories appropriately. Which it doesn't.
Of course, the essential thing is that they are all chasing ratings, and whoever is making the decision is terrified that if they stick with whatever their regular programming is that night, will lose out.
Oh, and isn't there normally a Monday Night Football Game? Will that not be broadcast?
Not that I'd be watching the game, but I'm still curious.

Most people probably think the presidential debate is more important that whatever crap is normally broadcast on Monday Nights - even more important that football.
I find it interesting that you sneer at the presidential debates on the one hand then decry "why so many Americans are so ill-informed."

(25,861 posts)all the networks combined?
I'll be interested in seeing the numbers.
Personally, I don't feel I learn anything worthwhile from the debates. Others no doubt disagree. Also, for me, I won't be willing to listen to Trump bloviate and tell lies, and I'll be able to see various excerpts on-line later on if I wish.

Live, unscripted and unpredictable, the first 2016 U.S. presidential debate on Monday is expected to set new television audience records, with some commentators forecasting Super Bowl-sized viewership of around 100 million Americans. The face-off between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton at Hofstra University in the New York City suburb of Hempstead will be carried across multiple U.S. broadcast and cable networks without commercial breaks for 90 minutes.

(25,861 posts)is not an indicator of an audience who cares about nuance, who is even remotely aware of much of anything outside of their own personal lives, that of various celebrities, and sports figures.
People often watch TV in lieu of reading books, discussing ideas in any depth, or trying to make the world an even slightly better place.
Here on DU I do often see real discussions of ideas, but even here it can be disheartening to see how many people fall prey to misinformation.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,861 posts)a SuperBowl sized one. About 80 million watched, and considering how many networks were carrying it, meaning people didn't have as many alternatives as they would on a SuperBowl Sunday, it's not as impressive as it sounds.
