(52,245 posts)that said, the only real penalty for breaking the rules is that the moderator *might* say something like "mr. trump, as you know, both candidates agreed beforehand that neither of you would use notes in this debate".
someone like trump could just respond "if i gotta break a rule to do the right thing for america, then that's what i'm gonna do" or "don't be a weenie hall monitor."

(58,785 posts)not practicing nonsense for a moment. And like any entertainer he has a repertoire of lines that have worked well a bunch of times.
Rump's only stupid in comparison to what a person in his position should be. He showed that he could be disciplined and hold it together for that long during his convention speech. This'll be very different, of course, but he's been a TV entertainer for years and should manage plenty of what are--for him--"good" moments.

(9,959 posts)...he would lose with or without notes. Trump is one of those kids in school who still fail the "open notes/open book" test. He wouldn't know where to look or how to understand the data.
