Pat Robertson attacks Halloween: "Don't let your babies grow up to be demon-worshippers"

Today on “The 700 Club,” Pat Robertson advised a viewer not to let her son attend a haunted house on Halloween and instead to explain to him that the devil is using the holiday to try to “destroy you.”

“Mother, don’t let your babies grow up to be demon-worshippers, if I can quote from Willie Nelson,” he said. “Don’t let him do it.”

Robertson said churches should organize their own alternative events with “all the nice, pretty girls and all the handsome boys” where “they’re praising the Lord instead of worshiping Satan.”

“Halloween has become a night when the devil rejoices,” Robertson added.

It's also the one where everyone has fun. Only an asshole would hate Halloween.

Thanks, Pat, for more proof of who you actually are.

the kids are just having fun dressing up in costumes and gathering candy. The DEVIL has nothing to do with it at all.

Please Pat, just retire in silence and leave the rest of us alone.

I'd scare the shit out of the neighbors by dressing them like Pat or some of the other Praise-God-and-grab-the-money idiots on TV.

Can't believe this guy hasn't kicked the bucket already. What an idiot and a party pooper! Halloween is short for "all hallows eve." That is, for all those loved ones, who have died. It's also the eve before Al l Saints' Day.
Let's see some scarey smileys!

I will admit, there are certain drawbacks to where I retired to here in the Appalachian Basin in Tn. But the positives outway the negatives. This Halloween thing though boggles my mind. Around here there are no "Halloween" school parties, or normal trick or treating.

It is always called the fall festival, and instead of trick or treating, they do junk in the trunks. Where the community gets together, whether at the fairgrounds, schools, large parking lots, and the kids go car to car in their costumes. For the most part, there are no scary children costumes. My son at 19, who is autistic wanted to go as a zombie soldier. I thought it was fine, nope. We were told that it was inappropriate. They weren't rude, or even tell my son. They pulled me aside and whispered in my ear. So the last 2 years he has gone as a super hero.

What is really interesting is that I now know where "Homecoming" comes from. It's a really big deal around here, families from all around the country come back home and there are get together a etc. I guess from back in the day, families would come back to the farm and help with the fall harvest.

We have quite a few Mennonite communities here.

...despite having pagan origins in a number of cultures and was basically a holiday of debauchery until VERY RECENTLY.

Oh and nevermind there are two Bible passages, one in the Old Testament and one in the New Testament that go against Christmas...

And lets not forget that the birth of Christ was marked by infanticide in the village of Bethlehem and Joseph and Mary were refugees fleeing for their lives.

Or why stop there? Easter also has pagan origins and is synonymous with various cultural sex and fertility festivals. And many of the symbolism for this is still out there, easter eggs, rabbits, etc. Doesn't take long to figure out the symbolism.

At least Halloween is honest.

"Halloween, or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows’ Evening), also known as Allhalloween,[6] All Hallows' Eve,[7] or All Saints' Eve,[8] is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide,[9] the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed"

Seems a bit contrary.

dress up like goblins and ghosts and Spiderman and so forth on trick-or-treat night. The young folks get a bag of candy. Folks take pictures. It's fun. It's imaginative. It keeps dentists in business the remainder of the calendar year. It is an important ritual, especially for kids who want to have a little costume fun.

Parents, don't let your kids grow up to be brainless fundamentalists.
