Why is he saying Trump won the debate? Reverse psychology or Bernie Bros wishful thinking? Even Trump's surrogates are stopping well short of saying he won:
Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore appeared distressed with Monday nights debate outcome, declaring Republican nominee Donald Trump the victor to his nearly 3 million Twitter followers.
Moore, who is known for his films criticizing former President George W. Bush and U.S. gun policies, warned Democrats that Trump is well on his way to defeating Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

(58,706 posts)there was an interview a couple of months ago where he said basically that. He thinks Trump will lose, but keeps saying he'll win to motivate anti-Trump voters.

(1,132 posts)so he obviously isn't a Bernie Buster. I take that back.
Complacency is dangerous, but if there's one thing Trump's September comeback has taught us, is we can never be complacent with Trump. I don't think that will be an issue going forward.
Besides, Sec. Clinton knocked it out of the park last night, whereas Trump turned in the worst performance in the history of presidential debates. Nothing wrong with pointing that out, repeatedly.

(17,600 posts)Try putting Michael Moore into Google News and see what comes up. All I got was links that went to right wing sites. Weirdly, one was labeled as Mediaite but when I clicked it when to "BIZPAC Review" which, from the other article headlines there, sure looks right wing. But even that BIZPAC site didn't show anything so terrible that MM said. It's all about "don't be complacent, get out the vote! If you just sit on your ass you elect Trump" (not exact quotes but that's the gist).
Breitbart and other rw sites are just desperately making shit up again.

(29,149 posts)No surprise that they would distort/misunderstand his position.
He didn't have a meltdown. He was praising her throughout the debate, and then ended with an exhortation to not simply turn off the TV and sit on the sidelines, but rather to get out and work to make sure that the Trump base (the one's for whom, for instance, his racism and lies aren't particularly a turnoff) doesn't carry the day.

(46,345 posts)Sorry if this statement bothers his fans, but Moore has a habit of making shit up, or saying things that flat-out are NOT true.
His "Bowling For Columbine" had many errors and flat-out lies in it.
"Hearts and Minds" is a damn good documentary.
Moore makes ego-boosting highly edited bullshit that is almost as bad as those anti-abortion video smears of Planned Parenthood, or James O'Keefe's crap.

(11,276 posts)Sorry, you are flat out wrong.
Moore has even offered money to people who can point out errors in his documentaries. Why don't you take your list of "errors" to him and see if you can get paid?

(91 posts)I think Moore understands the combination of outrage and irrationalism that makes up the Trump "base". I think that most people who are reasonable now support Hillary, or at least oppose Trump.
Unfortunately, not all people are rational. Many are in what Hillary called "The Basket Of Deplorables". Moore is very familiar with these deplorable right wing nut jobs. They exist in serious numbers and many of them are motivated to vote.
So, the irrational voters are to be concerned about. I think this is Moore's point and his worry.
Another thing that worried me during the debate was Trump's pandering to those in the Rust Belt who felt cheated by their jobs leaving for other countries. He mentioned swing states by name: Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania. I felt that Hillary needs to address this demographic to oppose Trump more effectively. She needs to mention these states. The election will be determined by the winning margins there.
Hillary needs to appeal to the outrage in these places. Her message has won all the rationals. Reason only works on reasonable people. When emotion, injury, fear, and prejudice reign, reason takes a back seat. Trump has appeal to uncritical people who are outraged by globalism. Hillary needs to make emotional appeals to this population. Reason alone does not work.
Anyway, I think Moore is worried about Trump succeeding with a message of fear rather than Hillary's message of hope. Hillary won the debate from a rationalist point of view, but we must not get complacent. The fight continues.

(46,179 posts)Disclaimer: I am not re-fighting the primaries. I am answering what the OP brought up. My thoughts:
1. FUCK THAT BERNIE BRO BULLSHIT. I am so sick of the continuation of the "Bernie Bro" myth to excuse, to attack, and to find a place to apply blame. Get fucking over it. Bernie supporters are not the "bros" campaign propaganda labeled them, and they sure as hell do not "wish" Trump would win. That's a sick accusation.
2. I myself, and many others hear at DU, repeatedly pointed out poll after poll that showed a race between Clinton and Trump would be close; not a guaranteed win. We were ignored or treated with disdain; kind of like you referred to "Bernie Bros." Moore probably paid attention to those polls. He's probably known all along that Clinton might lose. So it makes sense that he's worried about a Trump victory.
3. As far as the debates go, while she clearly won, I didn't see anything that would change a Trump voter's mind. Like my student said yesterday, "Trump is really good at getting people riled up." His supporters already hate her, and they are an energetic, determined army marching to November. And Trump may have lost, but despite numerous falsehoods, he didn't say anything so extreme as to interrupt that march. They don't care if he lied. They'll deny it. They don't care if he's wrong about anything. They'll deny that, too.
4. I don't think it helps the cause to continue down the campaign path with blinkers on, repeating all the old talking points about her inevitability that were always false. It might hurt some people's sensitive political feelers to hear about her vulnerability, but those who really want her to win ought to do so, so that it can be addressed before it's too late.
5. And it REALLY doesn't fucking help the cause to continue to smear and attack Sanders supporters.

(55,445 posts)Did you tell all the #NeverHillary Dems on Twitter? They'll be relieved to learn that they don't exist... Don't believe me? Just do a search under that hashtag.
Or is this a "no true Scotsman" kind of thing?
In the name of not re-fighting the primaries, I'll let the rest of your post slide...
You are talking about Dems. Most of the Sanders supporters that don't support HRC weren't ever going to vote for her, whether or not Sanders ever ran. Many of those were not Democrats. I assume your hashtag is about Democrats, since it's labeled that way. No, I'm not going to tell them anything. I wouldn't even know how, since I'm not part of the twitter world.
"Not going to vote for HRC" is not the same thing as the mythical "Bernie Bro," of course, no matter how you strain to conflate them.

(31,404 posts)He is planning an "October surprise" and has been posting about it on his fb page.
He had trouble securing a theater space in Ohio--where he'll film it--because the local Trumpsters didn't want
to contribute to MM making fun of Trump and perhaps converting some voters to HRC.
Here's the content of Michael Moore's latest post:
Wilmington is situated half-way between Columbus and Cincinnati in Clinton County -- but don't let the name of the county fool you! There are 25,000 registered voters in Clinton County - and only 500 of them are registered Democrats! Four times as many people came out to vote here for Donald Trump in this year's primary than voted for Hillary Clinton.
So why am I coming to Trump Country in Clinton County? Because I think I know why a lot of people in Ohio and Michigan, some of them my neighbors, are voting for Donald Trump -- good Midwestern people whose lives have been upended by "the system that's been rigged against them." They used to be part of something that was called "the middle class." Now they have a chance to hit back, to pick up a virtual baseball bat and smash that old system by voting for the outsider known as Trump. I want to talk to these voters. I want to see if I can meet them half-way. And I want to give them an hour or so of some good laughs over the craziest election year we've ever seen.
So, if you live in the area, bring your friends or family members who are leaning toward Trump to my show. They will be welcomed with open arms -- and they'll be treated to what I think will be a real surprise. At the very least, they'll have a fun night out in Wilmington, OH -- the birthplace of the banana split!
And let me offer my thanks to the people at the Murphy Theatre in Wilmington who, unlike the town of Newark, OH, up in Licking County, not only didn't bar me from renting their beautiful facility, they wanted it known that they believe in free speech. One of the main patrons who helped restore the Murphy a few years ago was none other that Glenn Beck. He's even broadcast his show from the very stage I'll be standing on. Does that help give you some context? I'm deep in the heart of it here and I couldn't be happier. This will be unlike anything I've ever done - and I'm going to film it and get it out there to all the rest of you in the middle of October.
Click here for tickets: www.tblus.com/moore Bring your conservative brother-in-law -- just think of the fun you'll have at this year's Thanksgiving dinner recapping the night the two of you spent with me over a banana split in little Wilmington, Ohio!
See you next week, Buckeyes!
