This was the first "sex scandal" I remember being pushed as part entertainment/part newsmthat blew up on such a national scale.
It certainly wasn't the first affair in politics, but it felt like the first in the "news as entertainment" era. It felt somehow different,
This video feels the same. I don't expect it to play out the same, for a numer of reasons, but it's something we haven't seen before in presidential politics and something that is political suicide.
As a Hillary supporter, I've got my popcorn and I'm going to enjoy the show...

(89,251 posts)the thing the media and many others will not ask is how there are enough people who voted for him to end up as the presidential nominee of a major party. he doesn't have majority support but he has enough to get where he got.
I listened to the thing on CNN and wasn't at all surprised by what he said. I was surprised that it had been taped and somehow made its way to the forefront, but considering what he says in public on the podium, I can't see how anyone is surprised by what was on the tape and the words coming out of this pampered, privileged, self important, obnoxious failure of a business man and failure of a human being.
He is and individual who would have to improve by several magnitudes to reach the level of reprehensible.

(175,742 posts)This doesn't surprise me, but it sure it nice to have his lechery on the record, especially so close to the election.

(16,829 posts)which was pretty stupid. But I don't remember Gary Hart as being lewd and vulgar. It was just garden variety cheating on his wife with a younger woman while he was away from home.

(129,065 posts)I know DU JE supporters went ballistic and/or were heart-broken.
But the difference is that Trump has been doing this for 40+ years, actively courted the entertainment industry (no matter how sordid), and it was part of his way to promote his "brand". Both Gary Hart and John Edwards were politicians and neither made it out of the primaries.
