This is an area that is deep deep red, yet she removed it today.

(11,415 posts)So this little, in your face, undeniable recorded video blasted out to all, causes them embarrassment because they can't hide it. We still know that Trump's other stands did not cause them to shun him or even diminish their praises.
Point is, they are not redeemed in my mind as any less deplorable.Sorry, but they have shown who they really are.
I have hope that someday their eyes will truly open to the fact that their is good and bad in every culture or group. It is fear and ignorance that stops them from seeing people for who they are by their word and deeds.
Trump is shown to be a true self-centered huckster at best.

(61 posts)in my neighborhood they were taken down for Matthew and back up Saturday- but fewer of them. I will wait a week once people are done cleaning up after the storm to see if they are all back up. I proudly put my Hillary sign back out!!

Didn't see anything when we canvased around Mar Vista awhile back. Driving around the Valley - nope. I did see ONE car in the Van Nuys area that had a Bernie bumper sticker on it, but a Jill Stein sticker slapped crosswise on top of it.
Other than that, I haven't seen ANY Trump anythings, at least as far as where I'm circulating. But I AM seeing more and more evidence of support for Hillary.

There was a Trump sign a few doors down. The house was run-down, and the yard was a mess. It looked like another angry American lived there. I wish they would realize that they will be worse off under a Trump presidency.

Fortunately there were a couple Hillary ones on lawns not far away. Saw a few more Hillary ones on my way home and thankfully no more Trump ones.
All in all, there aren't that many yard signs up as compared to the past where I would say 2008 was the peak (and there were folks who literally kept their Obama signs up for the 4 years after that 2008 election). There were also more Romney signs up in my area during the 2012 election than Trump (none in my immediate part of the city) so maybe that's a good sign. As we get closer to the election, there will probably be more local race signs though.

(11,816 posts)I remember when it was deep red! Did you see SNL last night, with Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon (in drag and googling the whole time) playing undecided voters from Clifton Heights? Tina was great but Jimmy was a hot mess.
We're in Montco which passed 50/50 some time ago and has been voting solid blue, not that it matters because we're so horribly gerrymandered....
BumRushDaShow
(129,053 posts)It would mainly be due to the 'burbs closest to the city. I was in Upper Darby. The insane redrawing of the 7th Congressional (after the original area had gone purple with the election of Sestak, who booted Curt Weldon out) was to redden it up again by grabbing Rs from 5 counties.
My other sister lives in Montco and that was starting to go purple 25 years ago. The deal was sealed with Democrats Shapiro and Arkoosh as 2 of the 3 Commissioners. Where my sister is, the Republicans were so fed up with Bush, that many crossed over and voted for Obama - twice (and had yard signs to prove it). Now they are indies. Even with the 13 Congressional being almost unrecognizable, there's nothing much they can do about trying to redden that one up. The reconfiguration of the 8th Congressional (Patrick Murphy's (D) old seat) in Bucks County, along with the 7th in Delco, was about all they could do in SE PA to ensure some red House seats, although some big GOTV by Dems could change that.
We really really need people to be voting during the state elections so that we make sure that we have some legislative chamber (easier with the State Senate) and/or the governorship come 2020 when the census takes place.
Patiod
(11,816 posts)The importance of holding the governorship, and also the fact that Dems cluster in SE PA and the city of Pittsburgh is screwing us. We were talking about the pros and cons of reducing the size of the legislature, and how little chance there is of that working out in our favor. Republican influence is way out of proportion to their numbers.
BumRushDaShow
(129,053 posts)there was finally some mention of some redistricting changes being proposed and discussed. There seems to be a consensus to go with an independent commission and there are a couple organizations pushing for a new state Constitutional amendment to do just that - http://www.fairdistrictspa.com/legislative-redistricting
Some more info here as well (from this past March) -
But more than being bizarrely shaped, Pennsylvanias redistricting plans are wildly unrepresentative by many measures. Under the current districts maps, Pennsylvanias Republicans have enjoyed consistent success in congressional and state legislative elections, despite frequently not winning the majority of the statewide vote. President Obama carried the state in 2008 and 2012, and voters also chose Democrats for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and state auditor in the last few election cycles. In fact, no Republican currently holds an executive office that is elected statewide.
Yet the states delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives currently includes 13 Republicans compared with just five Democrats. Similarly, Republicans hold 60 percent of the state Senate seats and 58 percent of the state House.
State Sen. Lisa Boscola (D-Lehigh County) says Pennsylvanias gerrymandering problem has crippled everything from the fairness of our elections to the level of cooperation and compromise between lawmakers. She argues that elections are increasingly being won in the primaries due to uncompetitive districts, which has dramatically reduced legislators willingness to compromise and negotiate because they are afraid of being primaried out of their districts. The end result is gridlock and dysfunction, as evidenced by the eight month and counting budget standoff in which the state is currently mired.
To address this problem, Sen. Boscola introduced a bill (SB 484) that would create an independent redistricting commission to draw congressional and legislative districts. The proposal has support from a bipartisan group of 11 other cosponsors as well as Fair Districts PA, a statewide coalition of 14 good government and community groups.

We have less than 4 years to get something changed before the next census. I know I continue to ask my reps about instituting early voting as well.
I chuckle though about the dramatic changes that happened in this state with gambling... and most recently with liquor (wine) sales. Can the state do the right thing and fix the broken redistricting (although they need to fix the broken education funding too)?

(3,370 posts)But you wouldn't know it where I am. I see and hear a lot of Trump support in my area. There's a lot of Teabagger love here, too. A bunch more signs just popped up over this past week. BumRushDaShow
(129,053 posts)It seems only recently that the teabagger types have made themselves known there but the "traditional" moderate GOP establishment are still there - both around the office parks and the more rural areas further N & W from the city. The amount of time that it took to finally reach a flip of control to the Democrats in that last Commissioner's race, is a case in point.

Many Democrats have said to me. "Signs don't vote." giving me the example of the recent sheriff's race where one candidate put signs up all over the county and came in second.
Hillary campaign provided no signs in this area, local party joined other locals and purchased signs after constant demand from voters.
Whereas Trump had local office and has been selling signs for months now. $6 each, not sure who is getting the profit, probably Trump.

And really there haven't been any that I can remember. Now admittedly I live in Texas and in a very red county in Texas. So neither side may want to invest any money here. But it does make it nice driving around here. I did think I would have at least seen some trump signs in the neighborhood. But there haven't been any.
