If Trump had grown up in certain areas in Texas, places I've lived,

He would have had his ass kicked by age twenty for 1) treating women the way he does; 2) talking about Hispanics the way he does; 3) cheating people (contractors) the way he did. Frankly, I'm surprised someone in NY didn't bust him up when he was younger.

I know this is a controversial comment, but I wonder if a good asskicking by peers at an early age would have made a difference.

Had he grown up in Texas, he wouldn't be associating with people who might beat him up.

Some of the wealthiest people I knew drove old pickups, wore clothes dirtied by visiting job sites, whether it was construction or an oilfield or a ranch. The houses were nice because they liked having their (first and only) wives comfortable and happy. The seasonal workers knew and respected the decent ones. Being a total asshole in some places around here would have gotten your ass kicked at least once 30+ years ago.

Texas and Oklahoma are Deep Red, which means even though they may grumble about Donald Chump, at the end of the day they will vote for him, just for the sake of voting for the Party

he'd have to take off his shirt to shit. Someone would have already kicked his ass up between his shoulders long ago. Long before he became of voting age.

Any more than I hold Texas responsible for the Bushes, who don't seem to have been ass-kicked much by Texans.

Like parts of Dallas, Houston, etc, to set the record straight. It's just like madokie said about him getting his ass kicked in parts of OK.

What is abhorred but tolerated in peers and forbidden for subordinates is glossed over & dismissed as unimportant in leaders. Sometimes even expected and condoned.

He was a menace and a bully at a young age, his dad had protection for him from when he was a preteen. He's never had to face consequences for his abuse including punching an old lady in the face when he was in grade school.

Many people tacitly approve of him and his actions. Many men, especially conservative men, actually hate women and don't really think of us as people. All those guys in the Trump's tape that laughed with him: those are the guys I'm talking about. And of course, all the conservatives currently decrying his comments only do so in terms of the women they "own": their wives and daughters. These women do not have agency of their own but are, in the words of Paul Ryan, to be "revered". No thanks.

I and other women do not need troglodyte men defending our "honor" by kicking the asses of men like Donald Trump. What we need is for them and everyone else to teach boys that this is not okay. To raise children who don't think of women as something to be "revered" or put on some kind of pedestal (so long as they don't have sex ever), but as PEOPLE with thoughts and feelings of their own, and with agency to take care of themselves.

Finally, I wonder how many men decrying Trump's comments as describing sexual assault (which it does) support those women on campuses who accuse other students of rape? How many of these men have victim-blamed themselves? "Oh, she is just wants to be with the star quarterback" or whatever. How many of them have actually committed such acquaintance rapes? How many turn to PornHub or or some other site to see the very thing they are denouncing now without making the connection that this kind of exploitation is also part of rape culture?

Because when feminists talk about rape culture, what they mean is the entire system. Not just the men who do it or who talk about it, but the other things as well. The slut-shaming, the victim-blaming, etc.

And I didn't reference this time period in my OP, but half a century ago, most girls were not groomed by their parents to take on hostile men or handling them, at least where I was raised. True, we don't need "troglodytes defending our honor" now, or I suspect women younger than I don't need it. Expectations were a little different then, just 50-55 years ago.

But I know I'm not big or strong enough to physically take on a man as big as trump and I don't have the fighting skills for it. I've been through a brutal sexual assault myself, and the best thing I did to protect myself was to survive it. I did have friends offer to kidnap the rapist and drag him through the Gulf of Mexico, chumming the water around him, though, and I know of other young men, high school age, who took on the bullies. Where I was living, law enforcement was lax, so the troglodytes were appreciated.
