A pussy kitty. I was in a campground in California on the beach. Sitting at a table eating breakfast, I heard a quiet mewing coming from a nearby tree. I looked around and finally spotted the little 6-8 week old feral kitten perched on a branch. My wife suggested that I go get it and we'd take it home to rescue it from its poor chances at a decent life
"OK...I'll try." So, I climbed up into the tree, reached out and grabbed the pussycat. It responded by sinking 16 needle-sharp claws deeply into my hand. Despite the pain, I backed down out of the tree, kitty in hand. We put the kitten into the back of our pickup and camper and headed home. My hand finally quit bleeding after a while.
Sixteen years later, the pussy I had grabbed finally passed away peacefully. It turned out to be a very nice little guy. My hand healed, although not without considerable swelling and a course of antibiotics.
That's my grabbing pussy story. Thanks for reading, and sorry for the trick I played on you.

(20,760 posts)The Feline Overlord doesn't mind the treats and pets that go with a weekly grooming session, but he's well aware that "the grab" is *also* a prelude to the horrible abusive ordeal of teeth-cleaning, claw-clipping, ear-swabbing and other tortures.
So when the weekend pussy-grabbing moment comes around, I wear long sleeves, and take a *very* careful grip. But I usually manage to end up with a minor puncture wound or two anyway.
Of course, powerful as the Feline Overlord is, he remains comparatively small. (When he get his 'full growth', he reminds me weekly, I won't be able to get away with such indignities. He will be at least lion-sized, and I will have to treat him with much greater circumspection!)
If he were even half my size, those puncture wounds would NOT be minor.
And if any guy attempts a grab on my pussy, I can guarantee his wounds won't be minor, either.
'cuz it's assault, it's a crime, and I'm feckin' sick and tired of a rape culture and an enabling legal system.

Bright

(146,317 posts)I have a relatively high pain threshold, though. Fortunately, kitty was young enough that, after a few meals, it settled in to become a nice lap cat for many years. I decided to just let it grab on for the ride down from the tree. No other way, really.
One of the many strays and rescues who have lived with me over the years. I'm a sucker for stray critters, I guess.

(17,086 posts)From my FB post of August 11:
So. I just almost died this morning. I was taking Monica and Tigger to the vet to have Tigger's eye looked at. Tigger was in a carrier on the back seat of the Jeep. I'd just pulled out onto the highway and was slowly getting up to speed, a bit over 55, I guess (limit is 65 there). Had a guy right on my ass, as usual.
Next thing I knew, Tigger jumped in my lap and tried to go out my window, which was down. I grabbed her with my right hand as she went across my left shoulder and gave me a good gash in my left earlobe, as I tried to steer with my left hand. We went right into the ditch while I was fighting the cat, starting to bounce pretty good, as I fought to bring the Jeep back onto the road. It took me two tries, but after just missing a mail box and numerous roadside signs, I finally got all four tires on pavement. Hit the brakes for the first time and pulled over to the breakdown lane to recrate Tigger at last. Got her to the vet okay, she's got a tear in her nictating? membrane and needs eye drops every hour (!).
Amazingly enough, my shorts are unsoiled, but my Jeep took some damage. I think I'm ready for a post-adrenal nap...

(599 posts)There are two young kittens that my parents' outdoor cat just had a few weeks ago that need to be tamed. I'm thinking of grabbing one of them so they can get used to human touch. Otherwise they'll end up being half-feral.

(151 posts)I work with ferals, the sooner you get them used to human contact, the better. Good luck!

(9,527 posts)I was somewhere around 7 or 8 when Chauncey decided She wanted me to go with her. So she put my hand in her mouth and moved me right along. Of course given that I was a scrawny kid and Chauncey was a fully grown adult leopard I followed as guided.
Fortunately Chauncey was really tame and didn't break the skin.
