I will bet the GOP will start numerous investigations should they stay in power as soon as Hillary is sworn in. It will make the Bill Clinton investigations look like child's play. I can see 4 years of investigations. No Supremem Court Justice. They are waiting for a liberal to fall with hopes of a 4-3 majority. And it will go on and on and the MSM will be happy with 4 years or ratings.
Government stalemate plays into GOP "no government" plan. And it plays into MSM and its thirst for ratings and huge profits.
Right now the GOP can lose big and we hope they will.

(5,737 posts)The VP votes to break a tie in the Senate. The House? Pretty unlikely to go with a Dem majority in November (nice thought, but unlikely) because there are too many gerrymandered protected GOP seats. But between the House Democrats and the sane House Republicans (very few though), they might be able to stop any impeachment attempts.

(63,212 posts)But we're talking about the GOP.
On what political grounds do we suspect that they'd impeach her?

(42,703 posts)Assuming that the repubs hold the House, they probably will do so by a much small majority. Getting a majority to sign on to an impeachment investigation shortly after Clinton is inaugurated probably isn't going to have universal support among even the repubs.
Having said that, will someone introduce an impeachment resolution, possibly not long after Clinton's inauguration? Wouldn't be that surprising. After all, impeachment resolutions and even a hearing isn't that uncommon. Truman, Nixon, Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, and Obama have all been the subject of impeachment resolutions and/or hearings.
As for continuing to block a ninth justice -- that's not likely either. If Clinton sticks with Garland, he'll sail through. He might even get confirmed before she takes office.
And if she gets an opportunity to name a new justice, there will be the usual fighting over it, but if she chooses wisely, she can put the repubs in a very tough spot if they block a qualified justice.
Finally, will there continue to be a lot of stalemate on other things? Almost certainly.
