Patrick Murphy just mopped the debate stage with Marco Rubio. He consistently linked Rubio to Trump, consistently pointed out that Rubio is only after this job till something higher up comes along and consistently hammered home Rubio's poor record in the Florida and US Senate. Rubio was sweating profusely and stammering. Rubio was more collected in his famous "water bottle" response to the State of the Union address.
Murphy is leading in some polls but I hope this puts him over on "November 28th".

But very glad to hear that Murphy did an outstanding job.

(14,689 posts)I already voted for Murphy in Florida. I hope he is able to pull it out if the bottom completely falls out for Trump in FL. But the reality is that Democrats have decided that their money is better spent in a place like North Carolina, rather than FL.

(21,056 posts)lot's of bad from FL since the late 90s.
Outside of Obama winning there, and Nelson holding on as Senator, it's been awful for Dems. We've lost senate and governor races by small margins (Alex Sink losing to Rick Scott still burns, as it was so close) that let you know had the GOP folks who run the state hadn't screwed with tossing people off the voter roles, and other election fiasco, that the outcome would be different.
Also, FL voted against gay rights in 2008 (only 57% of Obama supporters voted against Amm. 2, and 19% of McCain).
So, it's high time this Dem voter increase in the state result in some real changes in statewide races!

(1,858 posts)But we did go for Obama twice. Hopefully, enough voters wil turn out for Hillary and vote the down ticket races. Medical marijuana is also on the ballot. That could also help.

(21,056 posts)sadly, her contest was in 2010, and she narrowly lost to him. Stunning really that he could be elected, but that's what happens when people don't go to the polls, because all the rightwingers sure as heck do every time.

(14,565 posts)Two-thirds of governorships are decided in midterm years. Single females don't show up in midterms. That kills our chances. Females are 54% of the electorate in presidential years but only 51% in midterms. I don't see any foreseeable change, not unless a wildly unpopular Republican is president.
Rick Scott never would have won, without the nationwide tilt favoring his side both times. His margins were well inside the slant. Alex Sink was particularly devastating. She had the late controversy when an aide may have given her advice via cell phone during a CNN debate. Even if it didn't happen or wasn't much, it allowed Scott to be on the offensive in the final days. I'm still sick about it.
Anyway, I don't have much hope for Murphy. It feels like a 3 or 4 point defeat, simply by sampling opinion here in the Miami area. Plenty of people say they wish Rubio were atop the ticket and not Trump. One rightwing house down the street has its front yard plastered with Rubio signs, left over from the primaries. Nothing about Trump.
Hillary would probably have to win this state by 6 or 8 points to drag Murphy along with her.

(21,056 posts)I always call that supposed controversy over her young aide trying to help her in the debate such utter BS! To have her do so well against him and lose out just barely to skeletor was my most heartbreaking loss for a non-presidential candidate I tried to actively help. We were SO glum at our county HQ. Scott has been awful, of course. It's like no matter how low some of the GOP candidates rating are they still get elected or re-elected.
I had no idea single women saw their participation drop off so much in midterms. Dang. I know it's low most of the time for young people.

(7,596 posts)He doesn't show up for work. He openly admitted he doesn't like his job. After denying he would run for the senate again about a billion times, he went pack on his word. He's a homophobe. His position on abortion is extreme even by Republican standards. He's a man-made climate change denier. He wanted to lead this country but he's such a goddamn coward that he can't even stand up to the racist psychopath currently running as his party's presidential nominee.
It's incredible that someone as terrible as him stands a good chance of being reelected. I'll never understand what's wrong with the fucking voters in this country. Pitiful.

(21,056 posts)and not be Trump-like. The problem is, he's a weasel about standing up to Trump and won't disavow his support for him. HOPEFULLY, voters, women especially, will reject him for standing by Donald's side despite all he's said, and how Donald's insulted his accuser's looks.
Also, Marco went back on his word to run, because he knows he needs to be in elected office to make a real run at the White House in 2 and half years. Not that he'd actually show up that much if re-elected... geesh!!!

How SWEET it'd be to see Marco choose to not run, then get back into it because of the GOP saying if he wants to run for President again, he better save the Senate seat --- and he loses 50-49!

(23,160 posts)Not one ad pro-Murphy or even anti-Rubio has been seen here. I even only saw a total of 1 spot ever even telling about the debate. so bet most people missed it. So sad, Rubio is such a ripe target and Dems here ALWAYS just roll over for the Repugs. DWS is typical in that.
