U.S. Fighter Jet Painted Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Not The Onion!

http://feministing.com/2016/10/18/u-s-fighter-jet-painted-pink-for-breast-cancer-awareness/

Because there’s nothing like fighting breast cancer with the United States military at your side.

Or above you, bombing your home and family.

I wish I could say pinkwashing has reached new heights here (get it), but this is nothing new. Last year, Massachusetts cops introduced pink handcuffs (because where do women get better healthcare than… in prison?). And the year before that, Susan G. Komen teamed up with a fracking company to give us pink drill bits (and oh yeah also carcinogenic toxins).

Filing this one under Shit You Can’t Make Up.

This is as good a time as any to point out that the largest known cluster of male breast cancer was traced back to pollution at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina.

I want to point out that this display coincides with the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) - a program that raises money from government employees and service members for charity. Susan G Komen gets a lot of money from service members through the CFC every year.

As do hundreds of other charities nation wide.

I object to the reflexive dislike and lack of knowledge this OP displays towards the US military.

which is run by a bunch of right-wingers. Avon is the way to go.

I do, though, find it ironic that one of the biggest polluters around (not reflexive dislike, but fact) is doing this.

Is, I believe misguided - I think we'd all agree.

But this plane is a museum piece on a display ship.

The pink paint job is in conjunction with an annual, widely advertised (within govt. service) charity fund drive.

It is on the Lexington in Corpus Christi. The pink is temporary and will be power washed off when the breast drive is over. Not a big deal.
