It is going to get much, much worse from here...

The debate tonight will be historically unhinged for a major party candidate.
The post-debate coverage will likely center on whether or not Trump should be committed...
The excuses and conspiracies and deplorables will be thick and noxious...

Trump is going to lose and lose royally and that is something his under-developed mind simply cannot abide.
I think he may still quit the race in the final weekend...a bizarre coup de gras to the whole bizarre cycle...it would be kind of poetic in a way if he did it by announcing he quit in Trump Tower and then rode the same escalator UP and out of the race.
