(4,033 posts)Up until now I figured that our vote for Hillary would be symbolic and that we were really hoping that our votes down ballot might do some good. Now we've got an even better reason to get out and vote. Do you suppose we could get some of our now deceased relatives to come with us? (It is hard to find any illegal immigrants around here that are allowed to vote without registering.)

(5,737 posts)People in KY are getting over the coal, coal, coal talk. Honestly, coal jobs left in the 80's and 90's and most people moved on. Now, Mitch and Paul refuse to help the union miners. Congress passed a law preserving their pensions and healthcare in the late 40's. but our two Senators refuse to help without also helping the non-union miners equally. Problem is, most of them had no pension plan or healthcare while they had coal mining jobs and Congress never passed a law addressing them.
The guy running against Paul, Jim Gray, has ran a good campaign and has said that we need to move on. Paul says he is wanting to bring coal jobs back, but won't say how. Several power producers here have built gas-fired generating units. Are they going to make them shut those down and go back to coal? A power producer will make 32%-38% more profit by using natural gas as the fuel as compared to coal.
I'd like to think it is a toss up, but I highly doubt it. Trump by 8 in KY and Paul wins.

(453 posts)Jim Gray is our first openly gay candidate. Unfortunately that matters to rural voters. He's popular in Lexington! And Louisville is also really progressive.

(9,580 posts)voted early (absentee) straight dem ticket. Would love it if KY went blue. Most recently I'm from Atlanta, and would love to see it blue, too. Originally I'm from Oklahoma, but I won't push my luck.
